Industrienatur #01 : Westpark in Bochum

Today I would like to show the Cast Steel Factoty in the Westpark in Bochum (Germany) to you. The factory was foundet by Jakob Meyer in the year 1842 and started its production in the year 1845.

Heute möchte ich euch die Gussstahl Fabrik im Westpark in Bochum (Deutschland) zeigen. Die Fabrik wurde im Jahre 1842 von Jakob Meyer gegründet und begann im Jahre 1845 mit der Produktion.

Jacob Mayer is known as he was the inventor of the modern cast steel production. In the year 1854 he foundet the Bochumer Verein. In the year 1956 the Bochumer Verein finally fusionated with its lifelong competitor Krupp Steel that was founded in 1903 and is located in Bochums neighbour city Essen. The german steel factorys were important for the german armament productions during the second world war. It is also known that the even used forced workers and prisoners of war and concentration camp prisoners as workers.

Jacob Mayer gilt als Erfinder der modernen Gussstahlproduktion. Im Jahr 1854 gründete er den Bochumer Verein. Im Jahr 1956 fusionierte der Bochumer Verein schließlich mit seinem 1903 gegründeten Konkurrenten Krupp Stahl in der Bochumer Nachbarstadt Essen. Die deutschen Stahlwerke waren für die deutschen Rüstungsproduktionen im Zweiten Weltkrieg von essenzieller Bedeutung. Es ist auch bekannt, dass die selbst Zwangsarbeiter, Kriegsgefangene und KZ-Häftlinge als Arbeiter einsetzten.

Nowadays the whole complex was reshaped into a huge park in 1985, the Westpark, and is part of a huge cultural initiative called "Industrienatur". It features a large restaurant and the "Jahrhunderhalle", a station for culture, business and entertainment and a great example of the industrial cultural change.

Heutzutage wurde der gesamte Komplex seid 1985 in einen riesigen Park, den Westpark, umgestaltet und ist Teil einer riesigen Kulturinitiative namens "Industrienatur". Er verfügt über ein großes Restaurant und die "Jahrhunderhalle", eine Station für Kultur, Wirtschaft und Unterhaltung und ein hervorragendes Beispiel für den industriellen Kulturwandel.

The Industrienatur includes several cities and their industrial locations, wich are soread over Bochum, Essen, Hattingen, Gelsenkirchen, Hamm, Witten, Duisburg and Oberhausen. I am only showing you this small single location today, but all of them are an enjoyment for all those of you who like old industrial places and history in general.

Die Industrienatur umfasst mehrere Städte und ihre einzelnen Industriestandorte, die überall in Bochum, Essen, Hattingen, Gelsenkirchen, Hamm, Witten, Duisburg und Oberhausen liegen. Ich zeige euch heute nur diesen kleinen Ort hier, aber alle sind ein Vergnügen für diejenigen unter euch, die alte Industriestätten und Geschichte im Allgemeinen mögen.

As I am a big fan of both, old industrial places and history, I am going to visit the other ones also in the future and I will document them for you as well. I stated with this small location on purpose. So if you are one of those who is interested in more content from "Industrienatur" then I would be glad about some critics to improve my future content for you. Just tell me what you would like me to focus on or if there is something that you really would like to see ^^

Da ich ein großer Fan sowohl von alten Industriestätten als auch von Geschichte bin, werde ich zukünftig auch die anderen Orte besuchen und sie für euch dokumentieren. Ich habe absichtlich mit diesem kleinen Ort angegeben. Wenn Sie also einer von denen seid, die an weiteren Inhalten von "Industrienatur" interessiert sind, würde ich mich über einige Kritiken freuen, um meine zukünftigen Inhalte zu verbessern. Sag mir einfach, worauf ich mich konzentrieren soll oder ob es etwas gibt, das ihr wirklich gerne sehen würdet ^^
