Heading for Holland Tomorrow - Amsterdam & HiveFest Awaits!

September 2022 · 3 min read · Krakow

As per my previous posts, I’m in Poland and am all geared up to fly over to the Netherlands tomorrow and should be in Amsterdam later in the day…

It’s been a very chilled few days here in Kraków. I’ve not done all that much but have had a bit of a walk around and take in the city. It’s an interesting place, somewhere where I’ll come back I’m sure and delve more deeply, and also see more of Poland whilst I’m at it. I did go to the famous salt mine this afternoon though, so will do another post on that in due course.

I'll scatter a few of my snaps from Kraków through this article…

I’ll be heading off from the hotel around mid-morning for a lunchtime flight and barring any issues arriving in Eindhoven and then taking the train straight up to Amsterdam.

I mentioned in my last post there was some chit-chat about trains and potential strikes. It appears that said strikes have been cooled off due to a deal being reached which is great news. And anyone heading up on Thursday should be ok in that regard. Let’s hope there are no sneaky spanners in the works for anyone making their way. I think it should be fine and I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s stories.

So what of the event itself? I’ve discussed in other articles that I have attended one such event at SF2 in Lisbon 2017. That was the only one so far and I’m glad I’ll be back in amongst it this time round. I expect a lot of talking, plenty of interesting (and some slightly too techy) talks, catching up with a few of those I met last time, meeting many new faces, putting some faces to online names, meeting a few random loons, and a fair bit of eating and drinking.

Oh, and plenty of fun and laughter. All whilst expanding my own knowledge of this whole ecosystem and overall direction we’re heading - that being the Hive blockchain in particular as well as the general technology and shifting trends.

Not much to do now other than pack up my stuff and get ready for the next leg of my journey and show up with me game face on! It’s sure to be quite an adventure. I expect many of the attendees will have either been before or at least familiar with the set up. Although there will also be some newbies sussing it out (as me 5 years ago!).

The best advice is to just enjoy these type of events. There’s a lot going on and can be overwhelming with all the faces, constant chatting and info overload. Pace yourself, know when to dip in and out, take it easy on the booze (do dive in if you’re a drinker, just don’t overdo it and burn yourself out), and take it all in.

Then write about it here! Be sure to take a few pics as I tend to forget that and why not a video or 2 if that’s your bag.

Either way, see you Thursday for opening drinks if you’re there. If not, I’m sure there’ll be a few Hiveians to keep you informed (and online streams?) and perhaps see you next year!
