Road To HiveFest: Change of Plan, but Still on for the ‘Dam!

August 2022 · 3 min read · Amsterdam

This is the second instalment in my #roadtohivefest journey (part 1 here). Next up; a slight change of plan, but still on for the ‘dam!

Over the weekend I was busy booking flights and the like, adjusting my original itinerary. I was going to Spain first at the beginning of September, with a view to being in Amsterdam September 14-19th and most likely head back to Spain again.

I’m now staying in England another week and I’ll then actually be going to Krakow, Poland! (perhaps familiar to some Hiveians ;)). Then I’ll be heading to Holland from there. I plan to do a little traveling after that for the following month or so, but we’ll see.

Why the change? Well, it just made more sense for me plus I’ve never been to Krakow or Poland and I was particularly gutted that I missed out on SteemFest there in 2018, following an excellent time in Lisbon the year before.

So now I’m righting that wrong and ticking off another on my list of Euro cities I haven’t been to but want to. I managed Porto earlier in the year and now I’m heading east. I’ll most likely just take a flight from there to Amsterdam, although I may end up going from Warsaw or flying into an alternative Dutch airport (eg. Eindhoven) and getting a train - whichever is available and makes the most sense.

After HiveFest is over, I’m considering my options. It looks likely I’ll be spending winter in England, so I’ll have about 2 months to either spend in Valencia or pick somewhere else which could be short trips or the whole time. Then I imagine I’ll have new plans for next May onwards, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

In terms of Hive, I’m trying to get a bit more involved again, test things out etc. I tend to write regular blog posts when I’m active, mostly in the travel sphere but also some sport, books, tv/film, finance and generally what I’m up to. I might niche down a bit in due course, or use another account for specific content.

Most recently, I’ve been using Threads a bit and trying to get involved there. I think there’s huge potential - not a finished product by any means but with a few tweaks and a mobile app it will be a viable alternative to Twitter.

This weekend was a Bank Holiday (well, today is in fact!) and there is a Regatta in my home town. There was an airshow on Friday which was supposed to include the Red Arrows but they had to cancel citing technical reasons. There were other elements to the show anyway and they had these guys performing a lot of what the Red Arrows do. Not quite the same but a great display nonetheless. For me, it was more about having a picnic and a few drinks with some friends and family.

Then on Sunday was the start of a week of cricket with a touring side coming down and playing our local boys. Cricket was good but more of a background thing and a social occasion. Weather was great too, a couple of drinks and chit-chat and that was that.

Now back to work and travel planning!

Are you heading to HiveFest? How was your weekend? And any recommendations for Krakow?
