Valencia Vibes: The Sun’ll Come Out Tomorrow

March 2022 · 3 min read · Valencia

It was dear ol’ Annie that sang that famous line but I’m not sure she spent much time in Spain. But yes, we have the re-emergence of an old friend of ours - sunshine! Actually today, but that doesn’t have the same ring to it.

After a bad few weeks here, we look like we’re about to get back on sunny track in this fine city. It’s been the wettest March in well over a century, and it was the worst Fallas weather of all time… and pretty much constant since I arrived.

They say it always rains in Fallas, but that I think is usually a token gesture, this was something a bit more epic. For some it was good news, filling up those reservoirs and adding some well needed moisture. Although a year’s worth in 3 weeks is a bit much. Then again, would you prefer to get it all out the way in one fell swoop or spaced out? Of course there will be more of this kind of weather at some point, but we should get a good few months of shiny bliss.

In fact, the UK has fared much better this past couple of weeks. They’ve been loving it, basking in glory, going about their business. Although the worm will turn and the coin will flip; generally speaking, the south of Spain is going to win that battle. I should add that a sunny day in England is as good as anywhere but there’s certainly a lack of consistency, and that’s where a place like Valencia - usually - comes into its own.

So with Fallas out the way, and looking to get into a routine we head on to the next phase. On Thursday I got out and about and ventured to a meet up of a new group - Valencia Urban. I should say the meetup group is new, and a few new faces involved but many people are members of other similar groups so a few familiar people doing the rounds too. A new bar for me

Another meetup group is making its return next Thursday, awaiting confirmation of time and place but I plan to get in amongst that. Then a gathering with the Valencia Nomads lot at the beach on Saturday (dare we dream?!). That’ll be the first of its kind of the year with a view to having a few more events there. Saturday is more of a chilled afternooner but there will be future parties planned I’m sure!

I’ll be looking for a new apartment in the next couple of weeks or perhaps do a little travel, so we’ll see how that goes. I’m sure I may crank out an article or 2 here either way ;). I’m also looking to start adding some video content and/or podcast so it’s a case of making some decisions on that and getting started. Watch this space!

Ok, so I’m off out to soak up some rays :). What you got going on this week?
