TripFM #69: The Bridge of Arta, the city of Arta, Greece, 2018 (13 pics)

July 2018 · 2 min read

In Western Greece there is one of the most interesting Greek cities (from the historical point of view) – the city of Arta situated north of the Gulf of Amvrakikos which I mentioned in the previous post.

The symbol of Arta is a medieval stone bridge, a truly unique architectural structure, of which many legends and ballads are composed in Greek folklore. Over its centuries-old history, the bridge has been rebuilt many times until in the beginning of the 17th century it took its final shape. Nowadays, the bridge of Arta is an important historical monument and the main landmark of the city.

Arta was not planned in our trip, but the city was on our way and we decided to visit it and admire the old arch bridge.

I'd like to share some photos (and comments) of this picturesque place.

The bridge is in excellent condition and it is noticeable that it is watched and cared for.

The Arachthos river, over which the bridge is built, is quite shallow at this time of year. It is interesting that Arachthos is one of the longest rivers in Greece (its length is more than one hundred kilometers), it is known for its numerous arched bridges, and its origins are located near the town of Metsovo from where we went that day.

Tourists.

From the top of the bridge are views of the city's hills, the bends of the river Arachthos and distant but high mountains.
