Hello fellow Steemians!
Let me tell you about this magic place in Bulgaria. It is located in Rila mountain and every time I go there, something wonderful happens. I meet new people, learn new things, and see a lot of beautiful sights!
My day started with a different idea in mind, I was mainly there to check if the mushroom season has started. Looking the fields around Malyovitsa hut.
I did not take any pictures at Malyovitsa hut
I'm doing a research on Liberty cap, and thought it might be the perfect timing for the start of the season. After some roaming around and not finding a single mushroom, I had to accept the fact that its probably too hot still and I should just enjoy my surroundings instead of looking in the bushes.
Sparked some herbs to smoke and started contemplating if I should just go eat a soup in the hut, because I have not eaten anything yet.
And then I met this guy:
He was trying to talk to 2 german girls when I met them. He said he is not good with english, so I stepped in. They were asking if there is a shelter at Scary lake, and if its free to use it. There is a shelter, and it is free!
Turns out he is going to Scary lake, the girls are also going to Scary lake, and I was hungry for adventure.
Scary lake is a place I have heard from a fellow steemian @danielapetk!
From the first time I heard about it, it sounded interesting.
Why is it called Scary? - was my first thought. I had to go there, was my second.
So when presented with this opportunity to walk in company of a good hiker I quickly decided it is time to go to Scary lake.
off we go, he took my tiny empty mushroom basket, my amateur backpack was unable to.
We are going on an adventure!
first water we see there, not sure if it has a name
The Mineral lake
The Mineral lake and the girls, doing the same hike, but holding a guitar each
Turns out they are from Germany and they are roaming around the Balkans for weeks, hitchhiking and hiking, with the guitars..
Impressive!
Scary lake
I asked why is it called Scary. And the legend is that a guy named Mr. Yonchev which name holds another lake in the area once came down from Scary lake, and other hikers asked him "How was it up there". He answer was "it is scary up there".
The rocks around the lake form some kind of very cool acoustics echo that you can hear whispers from the other side of the lake. So if there is a thunderstorm at this place, it should sounds like you are in the heart of it.
Kostadin - the experienced fellow hiker I was travelling with, came to the shelter to restock food supplies, clean and tidy up the place a little bit. He was doing this voluntarily. I was impressed.
The girls and Scary lake shelter
The German girls said they are low on food supplies so they were pleasantly surprised when he restocked a lot of dry foods.
I had 2 sandwiches, shared one of them.
There were more people coming and going, the girls went on to continue their hike even further, which I'm not even sure where it leads, but they were confident enough.
We sat on this rock for a while, more hikers came by and we talked, smoked some herbs, shared ideas and experience. Then everyone went on their way. Some decided to stay at the shelter.
We decided to come down from another route, from Yonchevo lake.
Off we go again, with a bag full of trash, but mind full of fresh air

Mr. Yonchev - he was a famous painter in the area
Quick rest and eat something, this guy was prepared. He even shared one of his beers with me.
I am so thankful that I have met him, learned so much from him.

The hardest part of the way back was the "soulcrusher" - a difficult path area with lots of little rocks, thus the name
Here is what my walking adventure looked like on the map.
