Homeland of the famous Russian poet

July 2020 · 4 min read · Ryazan Oblast

Ryazan open spaces. Real Russia.

Last weekend I made a big trip to the Ryazan region. The main goal was to inspect the city of Ryazan. In addition, there are many attractions in the vicinity of this large city that are worth seeing.

The distance from Kostroma to Ryazan is about 500 kilometers. It's a decent distance and it takes some effort to get there. More than six hours of driving is a little challenge.

I can handle long distances well. There are distances and much more in my track record. Without stopping to rest, I drove more than 1500 km, but it's not easy.

I would like to note the fact that the road 500 kilometers to the city of Ryazan is of very good quality. On the way to Ryazan, I passed interesting towns that I had already visited before.

This is Vladimir, Suzdal, Ivanovo. And then there was the city that I visited for the first time. This city is called Gus-Khrustalny. This city is famous for the production of glass and crystal glassware.

But today I want to tell you not about this city and not even about Ryazan.

Today my story will be about the village of Konstantinovo. This village is located very close to the city of Ryazan.

This village is famous for the fact that one of the most famous Russian poets of the 19-20 century, Sergei Yesenin, was born and raised in it.

Many of his poems are dedicated to his native land and glorify the beauty and aesthetics of Russian nature. In the Soviet school, Yesenin was one of the main poets, since his works are very simple and understandable and, moreover, were very socially consonant with the tendencies of the Soviet regime.

Sergei Yesenin is a very bright flash in the literary firmament of Russia. He lived only 30 years. His life ended at the Angleterre Hotel in 1925. The secret of his death is still a mystery.

The personality of the poet Sergei Yesenin is amazing also because he is a peasant's son. The boy was born in 1895 in this very village of Konstantinovo and no one suspected that a famous poet would grow out of him.

He writes his first famous poems at the age of 14-15.

In a word, visiting the village of Konstantinovo was a must on my trip to Ryazan.

Now a large museum-reserve is organized in these places, which is dedicated to Sergei Yesenin.

To get to the territory of the museum, which also includes an observation deck on the Oka River, you need to buy a ticket. A lot of tourists come here.

After passing through the gates to the reserve and seeing the vastness of the Ryazan land beyond the river, the hills into the river, I realized what prompted Sergei Yesenin to become a poet.

Such beauty of native nature requires that it be sung in poetry and songs.

View of the bends of the Oka River and the vastness of the Russian land over which clouds are flying. It's fine!

In the village of Konstantinovo, there is a house where the poet's parents lived and where he himself lived in childhood and youth.

In addition, there was a school where Yesenin attended.

Noblemen lived next to a simple peasant house of the Yesenin family. Sergei Yesenin was friends with the children of a noble family and this friendship continued throughout the poet's life.

Now in the noble estate is a museum, where there are a lot of photographs and letters of Sergei Yesenin.

This estate is part of the museum-reserve. There is a large apple orchard next to the estate. Shady paths lead from the estate past a flower garden.

Nice place to just walk.
