Athens

I continue a series of stories about my Greece.

After a spectacular visit to the ancient city of Delphi, our road led to Athens. Athens is the capital of Greece. Athens is a city that I wanted to visit for a very long time. Athens is the cradle of modern civilization. The Acropolis of Athens is, one might say, the heart of Athens, this is the most important thing that exists in Greece.

I dreamed of seeing all these miracles of ancient Greece with my own eyes and now, it happened. I'm going to Athens.

The city of Athens turned out to be quite large. Entering the city, I was in a dense stream of cars. The movement was very active and I kept getting into little traffic jams.

I had to drive through the city to arrive at the hotel, which we chose on the basis of price and quality.

When we finally reached our goal and checked into the hotel it was almost evening.

We chose a hotel specially closer to the center and the Acropolis, so that we could walk there on foot.

We went towards the Acropolis. It seemed to me that we would have to go through the respectable city center, expensive shops, cafes and beautiful houses.

But it turned out that our path led through a settlement of immigrants from the Middle East. Migrants lived in the city right on the streets. Tents cooking right on the pavement. We walked through some kind of eastern bazaar. It was a little scary to go. My wife clutched out in her hand.

It turned out that the local authorities, trying to solve the problem of migrants, allocated a place in the city for refugees and tried to keep them there. From time to time, authorities tried to change the location of the migrant camp.

And now, the migrants are already behind, and in front of me is a view of the ancient ruins and the Acropolis.

We decided to climb closer to the Acropolis on Mount Areopagus. Areopagus from Greek translates as Ares Hill. Hill of the god Ares. On this hill, aristocratic meetings were held under the tsar and afterwards, during the period of democracy, public meetings.

As we reached the Areopagus it was getting dark. From the hill a surprisingly beautiful view of Athens opened.

There were a lot of people on the rocks around us. Everyone sat on the rocks around, drank beer and admired the city from a historic hill.

It was an amazing sight. On the one hand is the Acropolis, on the other hand, the sunset over Athens. This is a dream!
