Meteors. Orthodoxy Center

As you already know, we arrived at a place where ancient Orthodox monasteries are located on high rocks. These rocks are called Meteors. Soaring above the ground.

At the foot of these rocks are the towns of Kalampaka and Kastraki. We stayed in the city of Kalampaka. It was decided to spend the night here so that it would be possible to inspect this wonder of the world for two whole days.

Now there are eight monasteries on the rocks. Six of them are available for visiting.

In ancient times, in order to get to such a monastery, you would have to climb the rocks. It is almost impossible. The monk brothers used a lifting mechanism to lift products to themselves. There are no such problems today. There are bridges, there are paths that lead to the very top. Entrance fees apply.

On the territory of different monasteries there are certain rules of conduct. There are places where you can be located and there are places where you can not. Today's monks do not live in large communities on the territory of monasteries. Moreover, many monks are very educated people. These are scientists, doctors.

There are both male and female monasteries.

When I looked at these rocks from below, it seemed to me that there was a large territory on the top, a lot of free space, a lot of buildings. But when I got there, at the top, I realized that there was very little space. Therefore, when I found out that only 8 people live on the territory of one of the small monasteries, I was not at all surprised.

For me, these monasteries created a feeling, first of all, of unearthly beauty. The appearance of the rocks themselves causes special emotions. The architecture of the monastery buildings adds a sense of asceticism and unity with nature.

Looking at these monasteries soaring above the earth, I really want to believe in something higher, incomprehensible. I definitely recommend this place to visit.
