不鬥文藝鬥創意- Melbourne NGV藝術館的驚喜﹗Ideas rocks - National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne

March 2018 · 4 min read · Victoria

I love museum!
Museum is not only the collection of art, but also the collection of wisdom.
Museum in Australia is full of surprise. They don’t have a long history of culture. They don’t need the support of Renaissance. All of their weapon is just CREATIVE!

Eternity-Buddha in Nirvana, Xu Zhen

Eternity-Buddha in Nirvana, Xu Zhen
Laid at the main entrance of the gallery, the 14-metres long sculpture by the Chinese artist shows an interesting crossover of Eastern and Western culture. The Buddha is surrounded by over 10 gods and heroes of Greek and Roman mythology. Are they dating? Who knows. In the artist own words, that may be “a new form of creative culture”.

Shinjuku calling, Yamagami Yukihiro

Shinjuku calling, Yamagami Yukihiro
When you look at the artwork, you are not sure what is it…is this a painting…? No, it is moving……but it is not a video……it is actually a work that consists of two parts: a pencil drawing of a streetscape and a projected video. The idea is the day and night of Shinjuku station in Tokyo, showing the sense of sentimental and deep complex in one of the busiest district in the world.

Untitled, Shilpa Gupta

Untitled, Shilpa Gupta
A black rock in the dark sea? Not that simple. The work fuses thousands of microphones into a black mass with a multi-channel spoken-word audio that “imagines a world in which people are free to move without borders”. Awesome.

Teamlab

Teamlab
Probably one of my favorite part in NGV. This creative group combines digital technology with art and visual. When visitors moves within this small room, “their movement is tracked by sensors that communicate via computer with the projectors – thus movement creates a visual vortex – expressing the movement of eash person.“ Difficult to understand? Watch the video and WOW!

Cover-up!, Adel Abidin

Cover-up!, Adel Abidin
Funny! The guy is imitating Marilyn Monroe! You must be LOLing with this……
The guy is only an Arabian that is wearing traditional clothes kandora. Why you think he is imitating Monroe but not Monroe following their fashion. This is what the artist want to express. This is all about the “Western preconceptions of the East”, not only identity but also political.

We make carpets

We make carpets
In this kids corner, all carpets are made of the most common objects. Scoruing Sponges, clothespins, badminton ball……That’s probably teaching our next generation: art is all from daily life!

Legend, Guo Pei

Legend, Guo Pei
Extravagant is not my cup of tea. But this collection from big name Guo Pei is really stunning. The fashion design diva brought her 2017 spring-summer couture from Paris to NGV. The dresses are full of the idea of Goddess, but are actually inspried by the Cathedral of Sain Gall in Switzerland. Sparkling. Sparkling. Sparkling. Amazing.

Flower Obsession, Yayoi Kusama

Flower Obsession, Yayoi Kusama
Last but not least, Yayoi Kusama! This time, this one of the most celebrated living artists brought us neither pumpkin nor obsessive patter of dots but inviting everyone to decorate a furnished room. Visitors are invited to apply a flower sticker on any places of the room such as walls, table, floor and toilets. Everyone can be artists. Everyone can be teammates of the Yayoi world!

Many works in NGV are interactive. Visitors are easily having fun there!

Santz Cruz River, Alexandra Kehayoglou

The artist from Argentina uses hand-tufted wool rugs to craft a beautiful landscape carpet to remind us the threat of irreversible change of nature.
