My first summit in Europe | Kaprun Glacier, Austria

May 2019 · 3 min read · Salzburg
If you are European, you can easily skip this post & video and you won't miss anything you haven't seen, it only contains the Funicular trip from the bottom of a mountain to the very top and some beautiful snowy views.

If on the other hand you are from somewhere out of Europe and you've never gone on top of a Skiing Mountain, then this first person point of view video is for you.

By the way, the title is a bit misdirected. It's called doing summit when you climb a mountain to the very top, not when you use aid/transportation, but somehow I had to get your attention to open the post, right? Anyway, this video is not about making summit, it's about my first experience going to the highest point of a mountain where skiing is the main activity during the winter.

The Kaprun Glacier in Kitzseinhorn, Austria is also know as the top of Salzburg - the city I've been staying in for the past few days. This snowy mountain is famous in Austria because it's a perfect spot for skiing during the Winter - Oh yeah, only amateur or foreign skiers come during this time of the year, the good times are over and the hardcore skiers have already put their skis and sports clothes in the closet until next December.

I have never snow skied in my life, hopefully next winter I'll start but still, I wanted to go up the mountain and to see the view for myself. I heard about this mountain and what makes it so special - it is special despite every other mountain in Austria being suitable for skiing - and since I had only seen real snow one evening here in Salzburg and the snowy days were almost over as the Spring keeps growing, I didn't want to miss my chance.

So up and up I went. It took almost 40 minutes and three different rides to get to the very top where a skyview with no match for me so far was waiting for me. At some point it made me feel as if I was in a Lord of the Rings movie set.

It was surreal watching all these little figures skiing hundreds of meters below me while I enjoyed the view and took some pictures and videos. It was very cold and added to that the whole place closes around 4 pm, so I could only stay there for less than one hour. If it had been up to me, I would've stayed there for hours.

The video is a bit long - for millenial standards - and it's record in 1st POV, it's specifically meant for Central and South Americans, Africans and Asians who have never experienced this first hand, to give them a glimpse of what I lived and how I felt, I hope you like it :)
