Tsaritsyno /

Tsaritsyno /

November 2019 · 9 min read · Moscow

I recently caught myself thinking that I have "geographical cretinism". I always thought that I was good with history and geography, but 2 weeks ago I had a certain discrepancy between my logic and reality.
I thought Tsaritsyno was somewhere near St. Petersburg. It's logical. All such places are there, because St. Petersburg has been the capital of Russia since the time of Emperor Peter I. I'll say more. I thought it was a small town. No, it wasn't like that.

** Tsaritsyno** - Palace and Park ensemble in the South of Moscow. It was founded by the order of Empress Catherine II in 1776. Currently it is managed by the Museum-reserve "Tsaritsyno", founded in 1984. Tsaritsyn Palace and Park ensemble, covers an area of more than 100 hectares, is located on a hilly terrain crossed by ravines. The territory of the ensemble and the Park is bounded on the North-East and South by two deep ravines, on the West — Tsaritsyn ponds, on the East - a complex of greenhouses. Tsaritsyn landscape Park, founded together with the Palace complex, became one of the first landscape parks in Russia outside the St. Petersburg Palace and Park ensembles.

To get to Tsaritsyno we had to cross the whole of Moscow by car. The way lay through the business center of Moscow city. It was not an easy task, because everyone was going somewhere and in a hurry. In short, we had to stand in traffic and we got more than two hours to the right place. Back we went by train and kept within 1 hour.

It turned out that we went into this Park from the back side, and not from the main entrance and got into the realm of nature. Why do I always do everything through the ass?
Immediately I was struck by the abundance of bird feeders in the Park. I understood that these feeders were intended not only for birds, but also for squirrels. By the way, I met one, but it was already very dark, the squirrel was hiding behind the trees and did not let himself be photographed.

The titmice have already begun their inspection of the feeders, although the ground is not yet covered with snow and they can get their food. But visitors to the Park seem to be putting food in the feeders because I saw nuts in one of the feeders. And clearly these nuts were not designed for birds.

It's larch. Amazing tree. It is coniferous, but in the winter throws off its needles and stands naked until spring. 70% of the Russian taiga consists of this tree. This tree was used in the construction of Venice as piles for houses. This tree is not afraid of moisture, it does not rot in water. There is even a legend that larch was brought to Venice from Russia, from the Urals.

There is a ravine that borders the Park on this side, a stream runs through the ravine. What house do I see in the distance?

Beautiful lanterns stand along the path. I liked them. I even took a few pictures of these lights in different places. Hm. I remembered. I took a lot of pictures of lanterns, because at night they lit my way. I think I'll show them another time, maybe even tomorrow.

What kind of young men are walking ahead of me? I saw them all the time in front of me, and sometimes behind me. Joke. The first building on our way. This arch, in the center of which the statue of Catherine II. It was she who founded Tsaritsyno Park.

The path leads us down to the pond. In this Park, I was very interested in drains. I've never seen anything like it before, not in any Park. Of course, in this Park there are many ravines, hills, during the rain all the water rushes to the pond and can deepen the ravines. To prevent this from happening and made drains.
I used to go their native forests in the ravines, making their way to the river and would love the same device drains to the gullies from growing. Joke.

And the ducks are swimming in the pond again. Seeing us they rushed to us. They thought I was going to feed them. No, boys and girls, look for your own food, there is a lot of it in the water.
And one Drake decided to test our hands. Do we really have food?
And I such drakes in my young years shot from rifle in wild forests.

That's the kind of mess I don't like. But people enjoy it. Well, let him. Let them feed.

There are many bridges in this Park. I understand these bridges are many, many years old. And can on them still and Catherine has gone?

This arch on the island is called "Mermaid Gate". It was not restored specifically, leaving here in this form. Why? I don't know. But it says so on the description plate.

I also liked the trees that stand along the shore. And on the island, even especially on it! And the ducks that swam along the shore.

I want to say that that day my iPhone recorded that I walked about 15 thousand steps.

I didn't bother to find out what the ruins were. I wandered along the pond. The goal was to reach the Central house, the Museum. I think that tomorrow I will reach it together with friends.
