Forget that you live in the city.

Forget that you live in the city.

June 2020 · 3 min read · Krakow

Today there will be no difficult history and long descriptions, only a short walk. And just a few words about a charming corner in my district, which is proof that the designers of Nowa Huta also took into account ordinary human needs.

This is about the Nowa Huta Reservoir. Let's take a walk.

When I'm in a crowd of people and I want to pretend that I'm alone with nature, I'm trying to be very close to it.

And sometimes, I manage to keep other walkers out of the frame. It's not easy when you are walking around an artificial lake in the middle of the city; in the warm, spring evening.

Well, I'm also a walker, and maybe I'm stepping into the frame at this moment. And someone is looking at me with reluctance, hurrying me up in his thoughts.

I'm sorry, wait your turn!

And here are the people and some concrete. Civilization!

I can't complain. The reservoir and park were created 60 years ago during the construction of my district. At that time there was little greenery, the lake seemed to be surrounded only by buildings. There are information boards around the lake, you can see how it looked like before and learn many interesting facts.

It says here, that "The largest fish that was caught in the Nowa Huta Lagoon is a catfish with a length of almost two meters and a weight of 40 kg."

I don't think such fish still live here :)

Wherever there is a man, there are animals taught that they will get something to eat. The duck family mistook me with some feeder.

They came closer and closer...

It was hard to take pictures and look in those disappointed little eyes :)

Sorry guys, I've got nothing for you!

Yes, now you can see that this is an ordered urban area. On the other side of the lake there is a new playground for children and a brine graduation tower, which is still under construction.

At the lake, you can rent kayaks and sail along the small Dłubnia river to the Vistula; I'm planning such a trip this year.

A strong contrast to the reservoir and the green is the steel sculpture standing in the alleys. Local residents call it "Pipes"; no one uses the official name of "The Rise".

The sculpture was created in the Lenin (now Sendzimir) Steelworks, which is located a few kilometers away. The author of the sculpture is Stanisław Małek. Originally, it was to be made of rectangular pipes, but there were no such. So a sculpture was made of what was in stock. Typical of those times ;)

I guess every city has a place where you can breathe fresh air and pretend you are not living in the city :)
