November 2018 · 3 min read · Johor

Before entering the main topic, let everyone to have some guessing game - where is the Asia continent southern most tip?

The answer is Malaysia Johor state of Tanjung Piai (not in Singapore, as it is an island itself). And there is a mangrove national park in Tanjung Piai.

I personally went to Tanjung Piai National Park twice, I still remember the first time when I went, the connecting road was still of rock and bumpy all the way in. And nowaday the road improved become a tarmac one.

When you come to the Asia continent southern tip, it's unavoidable to check in their entrance arch. And you can post your letter or postcard from this southern tip.

The national park is habitat for many animal, and the easiest to spot on is the monkey family. They are jumping here and there all over the shop welcoming visitors to their home.

There are many foot path of different views in the park, some are going near to the mangrove trees and witness the respiratory root. The tallest root in the park even as tall as 4 meters, height more than 2 person!

This pathway is overlooking Indonesia Big Karimum island. When you walking towards the shelter, your phone might get notifications of welcoming you to come Indonesia-indonesian Tesco's signal is stronger here and your phone will be auto international roaming.

This walking path along the coastal line is nearly built, basically you are walking along the Asia mainland southernmost tip 1 round and enjoying the scene.

Then you will come to the globe by the coast-this is the landmark of Tanjung Piai National Park for long.

Those who like to watch the birds or photography, also can station on top the observation tower and wait for the birds to appear and take photos.

Mangrove forest is the nature best filter, it can prevent the erosion well, but also due to this feature, mangrove forest always trap those floating rubbish in the sea during the ride rising, you could have a sense how many rubbish had the selfish human dumb into the rivers and seas.

There are 2 problems awaiting for Tanjung Piai National Park, first is the nature factor the erosion. This problem is an easier problem to tackle. The authority had laid a layer of rocks at the outer layer of coast . This could ease the erosion problem if not resolved but prolong.

The second problem is the more challenging one, as the government had already started the landfill project just next to the national park. It's in the master plan to develop a super huge man made island here for petrochemical industry - size of island is comparable to Singapore Jurong Island

Hopefully this mega project named after Tanjung Piai Maritime Industrial Park is not the terminator for Tanjung Piai National Park! finger crossed !
