Axeman's Travelfeed #002 - To the beach through Curonian Spit

August 2019 · 5 min read · Klaipėda

In a second edition of my travelfeed is more ordinary story - just going from home to the beach. We have few beach locations here in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Main ones are accessible with cars to the North from the port gates. But normally many people there and the quality of water is worse due the current from the Curonian gulf goes to the North
Another possibility is to take small ferry to other side of the gulf - to Curonian Spit. That's perfect place of almost untouched Nature protected by Unesco. It is a bit more to go to the seaside, around 2 kilometers and normally we go there on bicycles. But this time decided to go just by foot.

Since my house is very near ferry terminal, overall is very convenient.
So the story begins and everything starts from a traffic jam. People are waiting their turn to the ferry in order to go to small resort cities at Curonian Spit - Juodkrante and Neringa (30-60km from Klaipeda)
Summertime from Friday the ferries capacities often are not enough to transfer all cars in time, especially if forecast for the weekend is very good

And you can meet some nice examples for auto... waiting their tun

Next step is to chose which road to go to the beach. There is asphalt one good for bicycles and other types of moving devices so popular nowadays. Either to go through the forest with some sandy route and we of course choose second option. There are much less people going there
So here we go through the Curonian spit with very different parts of the forest there

The sun was somehow too hot that day. Cold water not so enjoyable to swim, so we stayed not too long at the beach, maybe one hour. The road back, some more shots
