Axeman's Travelfeed #006 - Kayak trip over Minija River

September 2019 · 5 min read · Klaipeda County

Today we are going to a kayak journey over actually pretty small (in comparence of course) river Minija, which flows in western part of Lithuania and flows not far from Klaipeda
The kayaking is actually pretty popular here during Summer months being quite easy way to go away from city noise and very good as time spending for a big companies or families with children even, since pretty safe. River is very calm and not really deep

Generally there are few travelling routes and they heavily depends on current water level. Some are more rocky, but when the water level is low mean you have to carry kayak more than actually sail :D
But that's maybe more fun trying to pass such obstacles

So this trip was just yesterday and water level very low now due hot and dry weather. And anyway we were not interested in too much active "rafting" so were just good to take about 10km route at a deeper part to have an easy Saturday

The main kayak camp located very convenient just about 20km from Klaipeda straight near the highway at the point where river crosses it

This is how all the route looks from satellite (source - google maps)

First we are coming to kayak camp to sign an agreement and lease waterproof bag or life jacket (which we actually haven't leased considering not really necessary)
Lets start from some views how the kayak boot camp looks like. Mostly two places kayak, but possible three and even 4 places catamarans

Overall it took about 2.5 hours to pass the route at easy pace with only few points where we had to row a bit to pass the rocky places or not to ground on the sand
Very nice experience and quite a relax at a weekend
