Today I want to tell you all about one of my favourite places in the world! It's been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey by TripAdvisor!
Milford Sound
Sunset peaking through the Inlet
Milford sound is located about 80km north west of Queenstown, it was discovered by european explorers far later than any other place in new zealand (1812), because the inlet from the ocean seemed too narrow to pass through to anything of the sounds proportion. Hence why it is a hidden beauty!
Fjords leading out to sea
The drive to Milford Sound is almost as beautiful as the Fjord itself, with thick pine forest, mountains, crystal clear waters and waterfalls on every cliff face. It really is a breathe taking scene.
Cascading waterfalls along the trail
Catch the tour boat for the best view of the sound, see a lot of sea lions, and if you are lucky, some dolphins! And of course come out onto the deck for the famous Stirling waterfall!
Stirling Waterfalls are 151m high, and if you head to the front of the boat they'll put you directly underneath it for a refreshing and cold shower!
Mountains rising over the sound
The sound also has many hiking trails, ranging from short few hour trails to several day trails over the mountains, if you're planning on doing an overnight hike I strongly suggest booking in advance, as you cannot camp in milford sound, you stay in eco cabins and bring your own sleeping gear.
The breathtaking Stirling Falls
Milford sound trails are some of the most beautiful in the world, and the nature you will see along them is pristine! Lush green plant life, and the clearest water in rivers and streams I've ever seen!! It is Milford Sound where I first fell in love with hiking, and this magical place will always have a place in my heart!!
