I was looking for a short overnight place that wasn't too expensive on a recent work trip to Sydney... something that wasn't a complete dive... nearish to the CBD (but not too close, as it would get stupidly expensive...), and something that just wouldn't cost too much. As I was with a car on this particular trip, I also needed easy free parking (either with the hotel or on the street...), and I didn't need to think too much about public transport accessibility.
... and it turns out that the Avonmore Boutique Hotel fit the bill perfectly. Now, I didn't need anything that amazing... I was literally just sleeping overnight between concerts, and so I would need the room for the sleeping only!... but I have gone too cheap on some occasions, and regretted it quite a bit
The Avonmore is an older building (well, old for Australia...) that was built in a Victorian style. I do wonder what the original purpose of the building was... Lots of high ceilings and small rooms with similar style...
... anyway, when I arrived at night... it was a touch on the spooky side!
Just when you enter... it really feels like you have been transported back in time!
... no elevators that I could see, but it isn't difficult stairs. Nothing like the killer Dutch ones!
Even going into the rooms... everything from the wall art through to the furnishings really feel like you are in a period set piece! Well, aside from the television!
There is a small kitchenette... I guess that would be useful for the longer stays... but like I said, just an overnight stay for me this time!
... and a nice comfortable double bed! But I do have to say that the mattress and base were quite light, and when you are on coaster wheels you start moving the whole bed when you are sitting up and leaning back on the wall. Definitely a down side there...
... in the morning, a quick look out on the balcony before I packed up and left. A nice tropical feel... almost Queensland in style!
