Cafe 2151: Sydney (AUSTRALIA)

In a relatively touristy area, you can often expect that the eating places are going to be a bit ho-hum at best. The entertainment district in Moore Park is going to be a bit like this... a sort of entertainment area that houses lots of large events on site and nearby, it is the sort of place that serves up to large crowds that are on the way to somewhere else or finishing up from elsewhere.

There are a number of cafes and restaurants lining this particular stretch of pedestrian walkway, but in the lunchtimes, I tend to have too little time to try out the "nicer" looking places. So, I tend towards the cafe places that are likely to do a faster service and turnaround, places like Cafe 2151. Yes... I think that name is just a riff on the postcode or the shop number... I'm not really that fond of that, it is a sort of lazy and unmemorable way of naming your place. i hope that more effort goes into their food...

The Space

So, in addition to the outdoor seating which everyone else was using due to the decent end of winter weather, there is also this indoor seating area. This was much more attractive to me... well, because there were much less people!

You can see that they have gone for a sort of hippy cafe/deli sort of aesthetic... something that doesn't really generally fit with the Sydney sort of vibe. Sure, I know that there are many places in Sydney that this would be more at home in... but in the heart of a commercial entertainment quarter? It is sort of comes across as trying pretty hard...

The Food

So, the food that I order for this lunch... a simple chicken schnitzel, chips and gravy. Sadly, apparently there wasn't enough room for some hint of a vegetable. That would be a seperate side dish... sigh, why can a meal be a proper rounded meal?

Anyway, the food was decent enough... keeping in mind that this isn't a restaurant, but just a sort of faster lunch option. It is good for that, but I doubt that I would have chosen this if I had more time...

... that said, the coffee was decent enough... although, these days, you would have to try really really hard to get a bad coffee in Australia. Europe has a little bit of catching up to do!

The Experience

So, as I had mentioned before... this is a decent place for a quick lunch, but nothing more. Takeaway sandwiches, or a light cooked lunch... but if you are looking at something a bit more special and you have more time, then I would recommend looking at some of the nicer looking restaurants and wine bars that are in the area as well. Of course, those will be a touch more expensive as well... so it will be a balance of what you are after in terms of time, quality, and cost.

Cafe 2151 is a decent cheaper option, but not a memorable experience.
