After quite some heavy rain and bad weather over the last week we finally had sunshine and perfect temperatures again on sunday. Good weather on sunday is perfect to go for a little hike.
We decided to go to the Lake Baroon where we´ve never been before although it´s just a 40min drive from the coast.
Nach heftigen Regenfällen und schlechtem Wetter in der letzten Woche hatten wir endlich wieder Sonne und perfekte Temperaturen am Sonntag. Gutes Wetter am Sonntag ist perfekt für eine kleine Wanderung.
Wir entschieden uns für den Lake Baroon, wo wir noch nie zuvor waren, obwohl es nur 40 Autominuten von der Küste entfernt ist.
Lake Baroon is actually a dam and supplies up to 90% of the drinking water in that region. It also is a nice recreational spot with lots of barbecue spots and a swimming area. But we were not there for swimming. We went there to hike up the hill to Obi Obi Gorge, Narrows Lookout and Baroon Lookout which is 4.4km return walk. It´s also a part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk and if your legs are strong enough you can walk until Kondalilla Falls which is a 10km walk.
Driving down the hill to the lake and the car park we got a little taste of what the view will be later that day.
Lake Baroon ist eigentlich ein Staudamm und liefert bis zu 90% des Trinkwassers in dieser Region. Es ist auch ein schöner Erholungsort mit vielen Grillplätzen und einem Schwimmbereich. Aber wir waren nicht zum Schwimmen da. Wir sind dort hingegangen, um den Berg hinauf zu Obi Obi Gorge, Narrows Lookout und Baroon Lookout zu wandern, was eine ca 4.4km lange Wanderung ist. Es ist auch ein Teil des Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. Wenn deine Beine stark genug sind, kannst du bis zu den Kondalilla Falls laufen, welche 10 km entfernt sind.
Wir fuhren den Hügel hinunter zum See und zum Parkplatz und bekamen einen kleinen Vorgeschmack darauf, wie die Aussicht später aussehen wird.
The walk to Obi Obi Gorge is only a 250m stroll but it is so worth it. We honestly did not expect it to be that cool. After seeing most of the nature here we were surprised. And after all that rain in the last days there was a lot of water running down that Gorge.
Der Weg zur Obi Obi Gorge ist nur 250 m entfernt, aber es lohnt sich. Wir haben ehrlich gesagt nicht erwartet, dass es so cool ist. Nachdem wir hier die meiste Natur gesehen hatten, waren wir überrascht. Und nach all dem Regen der letzten Tage lief eine menge Wasser durch diese Schlucht.
From the Obi Obi Gorge on it only went uphill. Actually Narrows Lookout comes first on the way up but we skipped it and saved it for our way down. So we walked all the way to Baroon Lookout first. The whole hike goes through the forest and there is lots of things to see and discover.
The way up took us quite long, since we stopped every few meters to take photos.
Von der Obi Obi Gorge ging es nur noch bergauf. Eigentlich kommt Narrows Lookout zuerst, aber wir haben es übersprungen und für den Abstieg gespeichert. Also gingen wir zuerst den ganzen Weg zum Baroon Lookout. Die ganze Wanderung führt durch den Wald und es gibt viel zu sehen und zu entdecken.
Der Aufstieg dauerte ziemlich lange, da wir alle paar Meter zum Fotografieren anhielten.
After around 1 hour walk we reached our destination, the Baroon Lookout. You have an absolute fantastic view from there and there was no one except us. You can see Obi Obi Gorge directly underneath you and the Lake Baroon on the left hand side. We could have spend hours up there enjoying the view and the silence.
Nach ca. 1 Stunde erreichten wir unser Ziel, den Baroon Lookout. Man hat von dort eine absolut fantastische Aussicht und es war niemanden dort außer uns. Man sieht ** Obi Obi Gorge ** direkt unter einem und den Lake Baroon auf der linken Seite. Wir hätten dort stundenlang die Aussicht und die Stille genießen können.
After enjoying the view for a while we started to walk down again. We still wanted to see the Narrows Lookout which turned out to be the best spot of these 3. After a 45min walk we reached that point were a small track went off the main track. From here it was only 250m to the Lookout.
Again we were the only ones here and it was so worth it to wait until the end of our walk. For me it was the best spot of the day. There even was a little waterfall and you could hear nothing but the water. I climbed a bit further to the cliff and had a breathtaking view down to the Gorge and the forest on the other side of the Gorge.
Nachdem wir die Aussicht eine Weile genossen hatten, gingen wir wieder hinunter. Wir wollten immer noch den Narrows Lookout sehen, der sich als der beste Ort dieser 3 erwies. Nach einer 45-minütigen Wanderung erreichten wir den Punkt, an dem ein kleiner Weg vom Hauptweg abging.
Wir waren wieder die einzigen hier und es hat sich gelohnt, bis zum Ende unserer Wanderung zu warten. Für mich war es der beste Ort des Tages. Es gab sogar einen kleinen Wasserfall und man konnte nur das Wasser hören. Ich kletterte etwas weiter zur Klippe und hatte einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die Schlucht und den Wald auf der anderen Seite der Schlucht.
