The Farm - Grow, Feed and Educate

March 2020 · 3 min read · New South Wales

The Farm, just outside the town of Byron Bay is not only a Farm as you might think. As their slogan Grow, Feed and Educate already suggests it is much more than a farm. It is also a place for education, a place where you can shop organic and local produced groceries, a place to treat yourself with a nice dish from the chefs of the Three Blue Ducks or a place where you can participate in a farming workshop.

The working Farm

The Farm is a less than 10 minute drive outside of Byron Bay and stretches over 80 acre of beautiful hinterland with the most amazing views. Many growers have joined together to grow seasonal, organic and chemical free vegetables which than will be sold in their own store. But they do not only sell it, the chefs from the restaurant Three Blue Ducks use the same produce for their kitchen to create delicious dishes.

The animals

Apart from fruits and vegetables, the farm is also home to three kind of livestocks: pigs, poultry and cows. All three livestocks are kept in large paddocks where they can roam around free. As well as the fruits and the vegetables the livestock is than going to be sold in The Produce Store or used in the Three Blue Ducks Restaurant.

The pig paddock. The pigs were to busy digging in the mud so I could not take a photo of them :)

The farm walk

We did the 1km farm walk which lets you imagine how big this farm is. Along this walk you will see everything what is produced here. There are large patches full of veggies, the Paddocks with all the animals a bee-hive and much more. They even have their own Gelato Bar called Baylato where you can have yummy home made gelato or a healthy smoothie.

The walk doesn´t take long and is highly recommended.

The Produce store and the Restaurant

The Produce store, the cafe and the restaurant are all run by the Three Blue Ducks. The Produce store is selling all the the stuff which is grown on the farm as well as the local region.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want something special you can even order a picnic hamper and enjoy your picnic somewhere on the fields surrounding the farm.

We only had a coffee to go which we enjoyed on a bench near the paddocks. But what I´ve seen in the restaurant and in the produce store looked absolutely delicious. Next time when we´re near I think we treat ourself with something yummy from the store.
