Zhuhai and Macau are the last two places we visit in China. They boast of beauty, a quiet life, lots of nature and amazing food.
Zhuhai has a pretty opera house which has a shopping mall attached to it. There is also a cinema inside the mall. The opera is shaped like two sea shells.
It is situated on an island annexed to Zhuhai called Dabai Paidao. Next to it is a special restaurant that is shaped like a palace on a boat. We had a beer there. 🍺
We lived in a hostel close to the beach where a guest cooked a delicious dinner for 7 people. The people in the hostels of China tend to be very generous and you get a feel of community.
The thing is that you need to be able to speak Chinese to feel well integrated here since it's very rare for Chinese people to speak even conversational English. Not even the young generation are properly trained for English. The reason is that everything in China is based in Chinese and there is no real need for Chinese people to know English to get well in society.
Now, for a special treat, please witness watering the flower on a Chinese scale.
That's right. It's a truck driving around the coast to use a hose to water the plants. They also have one that makes artificial rain shower to make the weather less hot. We were always hunting for those trucks and often found ourselves cycling behind them. It was very refreshing.
There is a beautiful public park in Zhuhai and here are some pictures.
I don't know why but it turns out that this statue is very famous there. It is a fishing woman.

When we arrived at the border between Zhuhai and Macau, we found this amazing sight.
We guessed that it must have been over 1000 bikes in that square. This picture only captures about 1/3 of the entire armada.
We didn't visit much of Macau because we were here already a few months before. So, we only stopped for lunch and cross a long bridge to get to the airport.

And here comes the bad side of cycling around the world. Sometimes, when you have to take a flight, you need to pack your bike and unmount everything. It becomes this.
But this led to Chiang Mai which is full of beauty and Buddhist tradition. It was totally worth the three hours of bike packing at the airport and sleeping overnight at the airport of Chiang Mai.
See you next time in the same series of my bike travel. I shall update on my plan and tell you more of Chiang Mai.
