One of these days...

Preparing a virtual bike ride round the world sometimes leads to real-life temptations. Following this channel in the middle of Germany there it was again ... this question "What if...?" "What, if I'd just follow this waterway and continue cycling, cycling, cycling, infinitely....". Where would it lead to? Geographically. Mentally. Personally.

Would I become a hobo - like some long-term cyclists do? Would total freedom turn me into a philosopher? A freedom angle? Or just into a traveller being stony broke? Btw, did you know? Thailand is struggling how to deal with a growing number of tourists turning into beggars, because their holiday funds merely covered the flight and the first week?

Actually, I followed the waterway on my map - going northwards and finally entering the North Sea after 340 km of completely flat roads. And from there on, where should I go? Let's roll the dices once more!. Last time the result looked like this.

  • Lat: N 0x.y degrees
  • Long: E 0xy.yz degrees.

So - it's off to the East, staying within the Northern hemisphere - quite near to the equator. But what's that. Apart from a little bit of Africa, there's mostly water at Lat N 0 - 9. This could become a real virtual bike tour - a deep sea tour. Never mind! Here come the dices:

  • Lat: N 05.y degrees
  • Long: E 08y.yz degrees.

Time for a first glimpse at the map.

Looks like we're heading straight forward to the Indian Ocean - somewhere near Sri Lanka. What a great starting place. I'm already getting excited and first reads are mouth-watering as well. On a travel blog it says: Sri Lankans thoroughly love spices, they love food that explodes with flavor, and many enjoy deep fried, and very tasty, snacks. Whatever you choose to eat in Sri Lanka, your mouth is going to rejoice with happiness. Wow!

Well, you may already have guessed: I didn't turn left towards the North Sea though the temptation was really big. @gooddream - temptation is always there. I'm still very close to leaving everything behind. This time I chose the path to the right. Is it the right pathway? We'll se. For the moment, here I am, back to planning a virtual bike ride around the world - making progress. At least very soon I'll know where to start.

And I decided to make it a world bike tour on crypto. I already got my debit card. Join me next week. I'll tell you about first experiences with the card and finally get near the starting point of my journey. And guess what? It could very well be, that I've already found somebody to share the first stage of the journey.
