Cats of Corfu Island

October 2019 · 2 min read · Corfu

We all know what we need more on the internet. Cat photos.

And knowing that, i decided to contribute and make internet greater and with that vastly improve steem position in this great virtual space. So i proudly present:

# Cats of Corfu Island

I knew that there is some kind of correlation in Greek islands and cats but at first i did not notice it. In Barbati i seen some groups of cats, but they looked like they had an owner and a place of residence. While visiting Corfu town i seen few but they did not look so important.

Than we moved to Kassiopi. And i noticed that there is no dogs on the streets. There was a good reason for it. Because cats ruled the town.

The moment we settled in our room, we were visited by some footsoldiers

Dominance was established

and we were not bothered until the day before last of our stay there

Then i started noticing them everywhere

Some of them are pretending to ignore you

Most make a notice of your location

Some just smile and enjoy

And they enjoy the view all day long

We were also greeted by the king of Sidari in his residence on Canal d'Amour

The official cover story is that people on the island brought cats to regulate mice, rats and snakes population in the old times because they were serious threat for health and disease spreading. And cats were good choice because they can survive a lot. And they say they are all stray cats. But cats of Corfu elevated being homeless to a whole nother level.

In Kassiopi there is a donation box that is used to buy cats food, and also i seen few people that distribute food.

Cats of Corfu, rulers of the island or just stray cats, we will never know
