Zagajička brda - Deliblatska peščara

Some say Deliblatska peščara is the biggest desert in Europe (did not check but it is 300 km²). It is located in Serbia, Vojvodina, southern Banat. Some millions years ago all of that was Pannonian Sea, so maybe this was a nice place with sandy beaches but there was no one to enjoy it. After that this was probably classic dunes until someone decided to plant things and managed to freeze them in place. So now there are dunes that don't really move. It is an interesting place as most of the Vojvodina is flat as flat can be.

Stars aligned as a friend of ours came home from Switzerland for a few days and another one managed to run away from his agricultural business so Saturday evening we went on a short road trip. Last year my friend finished restoration of his 83 Mercedes G-class so it was perfect vehicle for this trip.

We spent the night at a cottage near Danube, with some barbecue and beer and in the morning we were on our way.

Every time we made a brake he was up there on the roof, i don't know maybe they are not allowed to climb cars in Switzerland :)

First we went south toward Danube, and we came to Labudovo Okno, and we found out that it is quite popular place for kitesurfers and windsurfers. There was maybe 30 surfers camping there. It is a good spot as wind is blowing almost every day for whole year.

After that we headed through the "desert". For a desert there is decent amount of trees there. And we got to Zagajička brda. This place has really weird and specific look. Bottom of the sandy sea, with no water and grass growing on it? The feeling you get is quite different depending the time of the year you get to see it. Visit it at Spring and you will get beautiful green grass, and kinda hobbit land like place. If you get here at Fall it is more yellow wasteland feel. I got the mix, so it is not full out of the world beautiful, nor it is end of the world apocalypse feel. I would definitely have to go there with only photography in mind, as it has a lot of potential.
