Cycling from Ukraine to Portugal: day 14. Hidden castle high in the mountains

In the morning I woke up in my tent in the forest. Started to cycle from Maribor (actually, from the hill where I wildcamped yesterday).

Good morning. Coffee, corn flakes with dried meat and dried fruits.

"Eurovelo" route in Slovenia is fake - it exists only on the map, if you try to follow it, you'll get to the walking trails that cannot be done with the bike.

So, I followed the main road (national highway, but not a motorway) in direction of Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital city.

Saw the steam locomotive in Slovenske Konijce.

Also visited small cozy town of Slovenska Bistrica.

There was a bike self-service in the center of the town. You can check the pressure in your wheels and do some maintaining.

Cycled not too much, my today's mood again was "I don't want to hurry".

In the evening I saw on the map there is a castle close to me. Hrad Lindek.

Google shows the visitor's impressions - it's ruined, hard to access and dangerous to visit. Bingo! It's definitely a kind of place I like.

Started to climb the trail. It was too steep to go with the bike so I left it in a place that seemed to be good spot for camping, and continued to climb on my feet. After 500 m I saw a nice waterfall.

Realised that it's a wrong trail. Returned back and started to climb again. Really it was hard, the trail disappeared but finally I saw the ruins of Lindek.

With a great scenery of the valley under, closed entrance (sign tells it's dangerous to tresspass) it's definitely the best castle I had seen in my bike journeys.

It was getting dark, and I returned to my bike - a steepy descend without a trail, but with a torch (it's time to change batteries, the light is almost dead). Camped on that place.

День 14. З велосипедом просунувся недалеко, знову був настрій не поспішати нікуди. Ну і пагорби, без них не обійтись в Словенії.

Найцікавіше було ввечері, коли, вже думаючи про пошук місця під намет, побачив на карті неподалік замок Ліндек. Відгуки в гуглі були "одні руїни залишились, і лазити по них небезпечно". О, таке мене надихає:).

Знайшов стежку вгору вздовж річки, вона круто йшла вгору, тож велосипед причепив до дерева і пішов пішки. За півкілометра був водоспад метрів на 10. Зрозумів, що до замку так не дійду. Повернувся до роздоріжжя, велосипед залишив там же, де він був - це виглядало як хороше місце для ночівлі. Вибрав іншу стежку, знову круто вгору, потім зникла стежка, і я просто по схилу поліз в напрямку, де мав бути hrad (замок). Позбирав на себе все павутиння з павуками, непогано набрав висоту, і нарешті почув голоси кількох людей. Виявилось, нормальна стежка була від іншого підйому. Але відвідувачів мало, перед входом на територію поставили ворота із табличкою "не заходити, небезпечно".

Руїни Ліндека мальовничі, вид на долину внизу красивий, а в поєднанні із цікавим підйомом це однозначно найкращий замок, який я відвідував у своїх велоподорожах.

Темніло, тому довго не затримувався і пішов вниз, до свого велосипеду, де і отаборився.
