Ukraine - Lisbon bicycle touring! Day 17. Exploring Ljubljana

December 2019 · 3 min read · Ljubljana

After previous days of cycling I wasn't so much tired. But anyway decided to spent one day in Ljubljana.

Janja - the woman from Warmshowers, who hosted me, gave me the key from her flat, she is working today.

I ate my breakfast and went to explore the city. Decided to walk, left my bike at the flat. Ljubljana isn't large, so, it's better by feet, no need to worry where to lock the bike when entering any museum or shop.

The center of Ljubljana is quite compact, with several streets and a castle mountain. I don't usually pay for paid places - out of my budget. So it is here.

It's worth to visit a castle - you can buy a tram (funiculer) ticket for 3 euro and the ticket to castle itself - another 10 euro...

Or you can walk the steep street and enter the territory for free, and it's perfectly legal. Bonus for buying a ticket - only the entrance to the tower and 2 expositions. Of course, you can find a used ticket, like me, and visit everything for free.

View for a visitors with a ticket (from the highest tower)...

And free views, for everyone :).

Historic centre is popular among tourists, but not overcrowded.

After visiting the castle, I found a lot of Roman statues and other ancient cultural heritage in a museum with free entrance!

Took a photo of the Slovenian parliament...

And finally, climbed the mountain at Tivoli park.

"Pod hribom" can be translated (ok, it's a joke - I "translated it from Russian, not Slovenian language") as "on mushrooms". I have no magic substances to alter my consciousness, only my bicycle:).

Then I returned back "home".
