| Quite a long time has passed since my last post in this series. I'm just too lazy, I suppose. But yesterday, I cycled into the mountains again (not too high, though, had just eaten & was short of breath) & I came across this little gem: | Hat ziemlich lange gedauert seit meinem letzten Beitrag in dieser Serie. Bin wohl doch zu faul, nehme ich an. Gestern bin ich jedoch mal wieder bergauf geradelt (wenn auch nicht zu hoch hinaus, da ich gerade gegessen hatte & somit schnell außer Atem war) & kam an diesem kleinen Juwel vorbei: |

| This is the Church of St. Artemius (Εκκλησία Άγιος Αρτέμιος = Ekklisía Ágios Artémios), located in the east of Patras at Likochorou (Λυκοχόρου) 18 in the district of Diakou. | Das ist die Kirche des St. Artemius, die sich im östlichen Patras an der Likochorou (Λυκοχόρου) 18 im Stadtteil Diakou befindet. |

| Sadly, I couldn't find any more useful information about this small church. Don't even know when it was built. What I know, though, is that the saint who gave it its name was not a nice guy. Artemius became a martyr because he was executed, mostly for the persecution of pagans in Egypt. | Leider konnte ich keine weiterführenden Infos über diese kleine Kirche finden. Weiß nicht mal, wann sie gebaut wurde. Was ich allerdings weiß, ist, daß der Heilige, von dem sie ihren Namen hat, nicht unbedingt ein netter Kerl war. Artemius wurde zum Märtyrer, da er hingerichtet wurde, weil er wohl die Ungläubigen in Ägypten verfolgt hatte. |

| Interestingly, this church is just across the road from a very old monastery. It's the Holy Monastery of Girokomeion (Virgin Mary?). | Interessanterweise ist auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite ein ziemlich altes Kloster. Dabei handelt es sich um das Heilige Kloster von Girokomeion (Jungfrau Maria?). |

| This monastery was founded in the 10th century & is also somehow related to St. Artemius. Seems to have something to do with relics which Artemius recovered & brought to Constantinople. Just like the church, the monastery was closed when I was there, so I couldn't take more detailed pictures. | Das Kloster wurde wahrscheinlich im 10. Jahrhundert gegründet & ist auch irgendwie mit St. Artemius verknüpft. Scheint damit zu tun zu haben, daß Artemius einige Reliquien zum Kaiser nach Konstantinopel brachte. Genau wie die Kirche war das Kloster geschlossen, als ich da war, weshalb ich keine weiteren Bilder machen konnte. |

| Maybe I'll go there again in the future. Esp. the monastery is interesting for its age. What's more, before the Christians occupied the area, it must have had quite some significance for traditional Greek religion, since there had been a temple of Artemis, goddess of hunt, wilderness, moon & chastity. | Vielleicht fahre ich in der Zukunft nochmal hin. Vor allem das Kloster ist wegen seines Alters interessant. Außerdem war die Gegend offenbar schon für die alten Griechen wichtig, da sie dort einen Tempel für Artemis, Göttin der Jagd, der Wildnis, des Monds & der Keuschheit, errichtet hatten. |
