Wanted to go to Rio in the north for a change. So I went out a bit earlier than usual. But it didn't really go as planned.
Wollte zur Abwechslung mal nach Rio im Norden. Also fuhr ich etwas früher als normal los. Ging aber nicht ganz so wie geplant.
First I went to the port, anyway, because last week I had seen that they were preparing a tournament, the Mediterranean Beach Games 2019. Wanted to see what's going on & whether there was something to take pictures of.
Zuerst fuhr ich sowieso zum Hafen, da ich vorige Woche gesehen hatte, daß ein Turnier vorbereitet wurde, die Mediterranean Beach Games 2019. Wollte sehen, ob was los war & ob es was zu fotografieren gäbe.
Well, didn't know that it was not just beach volleyball, but such a big tournament & it will start only at the end of this week. We'll see whether I can take some pictures or whether you can only see it from the venues themselves. Won't spend any money on tickets.
Wußte nicht, daß es nicht nur um Beachvolleyball ging, sondern ein recht großes Turnier wird & daß es erst Ende dieser Woche losgeht. Mal sehen, ob ich dann ein paar Fotos machen kann, oder ob man nur vom Gelände aus etwas sehen kann. Geld für Tickets werde ich jedenfalls nicht ausgeben.
Since I was near the harbour, I decided to check for some interesting fish, but only found this Mediterranean jellyfish (Cotylorhiza tuberculata). This species seems to be very common in the Mediterranean, but it's the first of its kind for me.
Da ich in der Nähe des Hafens war, entschied ich, nachzusehen, ob es fischige Aussichten gab, fand aber nur diese Spiegeleiqualle. Diese Art scheint im Mittelmeer weitverbreitet zu sein, aber für mich war es die erste ihrer Art.
For most of the time it stayed too far away or too deep in the water. Therefore I could get only a few good shots. The first one is from the side, the above is the underside & below is it seen from the top. (Wikipedia talks about its smooth, elevated central dome. I don't see it, but what do I know. Perhaps it was in a bad mood.)
Sie blieb die meiste Zeit zu weit entfernt oder zu tief im Wasser. Daher konnte ich nur wenige gute Bilder machen. Das erste ist von der Seite, das obige zeigt die Unterseite & unten sieht man sie von oben.
The wind was a bit too heavy, so there were too many waves in the harbour to take really good pictures. In the marina the water was smooth, but too dirty. So, I finally moved on. Only to be distracted again near the passenger ferry terminal.
Der Wind war etwas zu stark, so daß das Wasser im Hafen zu unruhig war, um wirklich gute Fotos zu schießen. Im Segelhafen war das Wasser ruhig, aber zu schmutzig. Also fuhr ich endlich weiter. Nur, um am Fährhafen direkt wieder abgelenkt zu werden.
One of the trees there was bleeding badly. Don't know why. It was the only one of the trees with several spots like this, oozing sap. Made for some nice pictures, though, with the glistening sunlight.
Einer der Bäume dort harzte heftig. Keine Ahnung, warum. War der einzige der dortigen Bäume, der mehrere harzende Stellen hatte. Ergab aber immerhin ein paar nette Bilder, mit dem glitzernden Sonnenlicht.
& on I went. Finally got some kilometres in before I was distracted again. This time it was just some grass.
& weiter ging's. Kamen endlich mal ein paar Kilometer zusammen, bevor ich wieder abgelenkt wurde.
Only grass seeds, but nice.
Nur Gras. Sieht aber nicht schlecht aus.
From there on, no further distractions. When I thought I had reached Rio, I turned to the coast. On the way to the sea, I found this little abandoned house.
Von da an gab es keine weitere Ablenkung. Als ich dachte, ich hätte Rio erreicht, fuhr ich Richtung Küste. Auf dem Weg zum Meer kam ich an dieser verlassenen Hütte vorbei.
I can only guess, but that thingy on the right might have been a stable. It's too small for people to live in. That area that looks like a walled-up gate, could actually have been a drinking fountain. You see that a lot here, but usually as a slab of stone with the water coming from the upper area.
Kann es nur vermuten, aber das kleine Ding rechts war wohl ein Stall. Die Stelle, die aussieht wie ein zugemauertes Tor, könnte eine Art Trinkbrunnen gewesen sein. Solche Brunnen sieht man hier häufiger, aber meist als eine Art allein stehende Steinplatte (wie ein Grabstein), aus der oben das Wasser kommt.
Look at that chimney (I think it is). Never seen anything like this before. A few meters north I then reached the coast. ... & was confused. A beach to the left ...
Man beachte den Schornstein (denke, daß es einer ist). Noch nie sowas gesehen. Ein paar Meter weiter nördlich kam ich dann an die Küste. ... & war verwirrt. Ein Strand auf der linken Seite ...

& in the middle me, on a street that ended at the sea. I had miscalculated & was not yet in Rio, but in Proastio. Anyway, these beaches (one of them probably called Achaia Beach), were more populated & sandier than what you usually see in Patras proper.
& in der Mitte war ich, auf einer Straße, die am Meer aufhörte. Hatte mich verkalkuliert & war noch gar nicht in Rio, sondern in Proastio. Wie auch immer, diese Strände (einer davon vermutlich der Achaiastrand), waren belebter & sandiger als die, die man gewöhnlich in Patras selbst findet.
That was also the place of the title picture. A beach to the right, a beach to the left & in the middle this little boat in front of the sun. Since it was already getting late, I decided just to explore the alleyways for a while instead of trying to get to Rio.
Das war auch der Ort, wo das Titelbild entstand. Strand zur Rechten, Strand zur Linken & in der Mitte dieses kleine Boot vor der Sonne. Da es schon recht spät war, entschied ich, nur noch die dortigen Gassen zu erkunden, anstatt nach Rio zu fahren.
Ugly abandoned house (there are so many houses for rent, for sale or simply abandoned; sooner or later I'll do a special post just about these), but interesting for the overgrowth. & for the cats. The black & white one sees the grey cat & decides to charge. "Ha! I surprise her & give her a beating":
Häßliches, verlassenes Haus (so viele Häuser zu vermieten, zu verkaufen oder einfach nur verlassen; früher oder später werde ich denen mal einen eigenen Beitrag widmen), aber interessant wegen des Überwuchses. & wegen der Katzen. Die schwarzweiße sieht die graue & will sie vertreiben. "Ha! Ich überrasche sie & gebe ihr eine Abreibung.":
"Oops! She's ready to fight!"
"Hoppla! Sie will sich wehren!"
"Oh. Ah. Eh. Nothing going on. Just passing through. Hi! Bye!"
"Äh. Oh. Ach. War nichts. Wollte nur in aller Ruhe vorbei. Hallo! Tschüss!"
Time to go back. Arrived at the north coast of Patras proper just in time for the sunset. No orange, sadly. This time it was again rather purplish.
Zeit, zurückzukehren. Kam an der Nordküste von Patras gerade rechtzeitig für den Sonnenuntergang an. Leider kein Orange. War diesmal leicht violett.
Purplish or not, it was not boring, quite some nice structure in the sky.
Violett, oder nicht, langweilig war es nicht; gab recht nette Struktur am Himmel.
That was actually 20 minutes or so after the actual sunset. I had to go south along the coast for a while & before I turned to the hills, the colours in the sky were still quite intense, so I took some more photos.
Das war übrigens schon ca. 20 Minuten nachdem die Sonne weg war. Ich mußte eine Weile die Küste entlang nach Süden fahren & als ich landeinwärts hätte fahren sollen, waren die Farben immer noch recht intensiv. Also machte ich erst noch ein paar Fotos.
