Beside the Netherlands & Australia, whose boats you can see above, there were also teams from Italy, Indonesia & the Philippines. | Das Drachenbootturnier in Shaoguan war eine internationale Angelegenheit. | When I was there that day, only the local teams were training, though. Below you can see the back of the stand for the officials & judges for the races. They called it the Shao Gang Cup. It seems this doesn't exist anymore. Haven't found anything about recent tournaments. On Google only one of my videos about this particular event pops up. | An dem Tag waren aber nur die lokalen Mannschaften im Training. | Don't really understand, why. That was a fairly cheap way to get some positive international attention for Shaoguan. As a city which is at least partially dependent on tourism, that should count for something. | Keine Ahnung, warum. Dies war eine relativ günstige Möglichkeit, um positive, internationale Aufmerksamkeit auf Shaoguan zu lenken. Da man zumindest teilweise vom Tourismus abhängig ist, sollte das doch was wert sein. |

(That's what partially attracted me to China in the 1st place: the "good enough" mentality. | These mushrooms are supposed to be healthy. Considering the exhaust fumes they are exposed to when dried this way, I have serious doubts, though. (Not to mention human excretions which may fly around here & there.) | Diese Pilze sollen gesund sein. Wenn man bedenkt, welchen Auspuffgasen sie auf dem Bürgersteig ausgesetzt sind, habe ich aber so meine Zweifel. (Nicht zu vergessen diverse menschliche Ausscheidungen, die hier & da rumfliegen.) |

| Waiting for the bus, I saw the above interesting scene. A pickup truck of the river authorities had broken down in the middle of a crossroads. The driver didn't make any effort to get it out of the way, just kept talking to people on the phone. Also interesting: several scooters with adults wearing helmets, while the kids obviously don't need any protection. | Auf den Bus wartend, fiel mir die obige Szene auf. Ein Pickup der Flußverwaltung hatte in Kreuzungsmitte eine Panne. Der Fahrer machte keine Anstalten, den Wagen aus dem Weg zu schaffen, sondern telefonierte pausenlos. Auch interessant: Mehrere Roller mit erwachsenen Fahrern, die Helme tragen, während Kinder als Beifahrer offenbar keinen Schutz benötigen. |
