Shaoguan Uni - Walking the campus / Campuswanderungen

This time no cycling, just walking. Thought about putting it in a "Cycling the countryside" post, anyway. But all of today's picture are from inside the campus of Shaoguan University & I was just walking around to take pictures.
Diesmal kein Radeln, sondern nur Latschen. Hatte überlegt, das heutige Programm doch unter "Umgebungsradeln" firmieren zu lassen, aber alle Fotos entstanden, als ich auf dem Campus spazierend nach Motiven suchte.
My time in Shaoguan was slowly coming to an end & I wanted to have photos of pretty much everything. Today there won't be many images of the buildings, though. These will be put into a separate post in which I want to introduce the university as such. On this walk I focused more on wildlife, anyway. But not only that:
Meine Zeit in Shaoguan neigte sich ihrem Ende zu & ich wollte möglichst alles fotografiert haben. Heute bringe ich jedoch noch nicht viel über die Gebäude. Werde noch einen Beitrag schreiben, in dem ich die Uni selber vorstelle. Auf diesem Spaziergang beschäftigte ich mich sowieso eher mit der dortigen Tierwelt. Aber nicht ausschließlich:
That's Chinglish. I liked to take pictures showing Chinese English usage. In this case the T-Shirt shows "Emyli cra isn't she's am". Perhaps it actually means something.
Chinglish. Chinesisches Englisch ist ein Thema für sich & habe ich deshalb gerne fotografiert. In dem Fall steht auf dem T-Shirt: "Emyli cra isn't she's am". Den Versuch einer Übersetzung spare ich mir.
This photo shows the typical red soil of Shaoguan. The black line is a coal seam. There seems to be a lot of coal in the ground of Shaoguan, but perhaps mostly - like in this case - in small seams that don't warrant industrial mining.
Dieses Foto zeigt die typische rote Erde Shaoguans. Das Schwarze ist ein Kohlesaum. In Shaoguan scheint es recht viel Kohle im Untergrund zu geben, aber vielleicht meist wie in diesem Fall in nicht wirtschaftlich zu fördernden Mengen.
Lots of swallows (this one's probably Hirundo rustica gutturalis) live in Canton probably because there is an abundance of flying insects & many opportunities to build nests. Here they had built their nest on top of an old speaker. A young one was curious about the camera's flash:
In Kanton leben eine Menge Schwalben (hier wohl eine Rauchschwalbe), vermutlich weil es auch viele Fluginsekten & Nistmöglichkeiten gibt. Hier haben sie ein Nest auf einen alten Lautsprecher gebaut.. Ein Junges wunderte sich über's Blitzlicht:
The parents were strangely enough not really concerned about my presence. Maybe, unlike almost all other vertebrate animals in Canton, they were not hunted for food, & therefore didn't care about humans.
Die Eltern kümmerten sich seltsamerweise nicht weiter um mich. Vielleicht werden Schwalben, anders als so ziemlich alle anderen Wirbeltiere, in Kanton nicht bejagt, & fürchteten sich deshalb nicht zu sehr vor Menschen.
Then there was this spider near the northernmost pond:
Am nördlichsten Teich des Campus fand ich diese Spinne.
Not sure which species it is. The body shape reminds of Nephila, but it's probably a spider from the genus Tetragnatha.
Bin nicht sicher, um welche Spezies es sich handelt. Der Körperbau erinnert an Nephila, aber wahrscheinlich ist eine Art der Tetragnatha.
Beside some student dormitories I found this Chinese bulbul. The dorms themselves offered a strange look for someone from Germany:
Neben einigen Studentenwohnheimen fand ich diesen Chinabülbül. Die Wohnheime selber boten für einen Deutschen einen seltsamen Anblick:
In China it's very common to dry your clothes on the balcony. In student dorms, there is anyway no other room to do this. Therefore it's no wonder, although it's a certain risk, particularly for girls. Heard of a number of cases in which female underwear was stolen. The dorms as such will also be covered in a separate post.
In China ist es üblich, die Wäsche zum Trocknen auf den Balkon zu hängen. In Studentenwohnheimen gibt es aber eh keinen anderen Platz dafür. Daher ist dies kein Wunder, auch wenn es für die Mädels ein gewisses Risiko darstellt. Hörte von einigen Fällen, in denen weibliche Unterwäsche gestohlen wurde. Die Wohnheime selber werde ich mir auch noch separat vornehmen.
The university is embedded in a very nice landscape. Sadly, there has been quite some building activity around the campus in recent years. So it's not as rural as it was in 2007, but it's still quite nice.
Die Uni ist sehr schön gelegen. Leider wurde in den letzten Jahren rund um den Campus so einiges gebaut. Daher ist es nicht mehr so ländlich wie 2007, aber trotzdem noch recht schön.
That's the sports ground. No idea, why they used the Olympic rings. The Shaoguan football stadium also showed them. But I don't think there was ever any olympic activity in Shaoguan.
Die Sportanlage. Keine Ahnung, warum die mit olympischen Ringen verziert wurde. Im Fußballstadion Shaoguan hängen sie auch. Aber ich denke nicht, daß es jemals olympische Aktivitäten in Shaoguan gab.
If you like birds, Canton is heaven for you. There are so many birds, & so many species, it's wonderful. When I was in Germany, I thought, I knew a lot of different species, but I had no idea. Just like in this case. My best guess is some kind of wren.
Wer Vögel mag, für den ist Kanton ein Paradies. Es ist wunderbar, wieviele Arten es gibt. Als ich noch in Deutschland war, hatte ich den Eindruck, ich wüßte so einiges über Vögel, aber ich hatte keine Ahnung. Wie auch hier. Kann nur vermuten, daß es ein Zaunkönigverwandter ist.
Nearby, at a basketball court, I found a young bird of which I originally thought it was a young bulbul. But now I'm pretty sure it's actually an Oriental magpie-robin.
In der Nähe, bei einem Basketballplatz fand ich einen Jungvogel, den ich zunächst für einen jungen Bülbül hielt. Aber es handelt sich wohl um eine Dajaldrossel.
The basketball players didn't seem to bother it too much.
Schien sich von den Spielern nicht weiter stören zu lassen.
Another bird commonly found in Shaoguan, although mostly out in the fields, not so much on campus like here, is the spotted munia:
Ein weiterer Vogel, den man in Shaoguan häufiger sieht, wenn auch eher auf den Feldern, nicht auf dem Campus, ist der Muskatfink:
Some nice flowers were growing on campus as well, though not a species native to China, I think. White spider lilies:
Gab auch einige nette Blumen zu sehen, wenn auch keine in China heimische Spezies, denke ich. Weiße Schönhäutchen:
& before I went home, I was at another pond to watch some dragonflies.
& bevor ich nach Hause ging, beobachtete ich noch einige Libellen:
That's a male Crimson marsh glider. This one wasn't afraid at all & let me get quite close:
Das ist ein Männchen der Art Trithemis aurora. Ließ mich recht nahe ran.
Only one other species was around that day, not perching on plants, but on the ground:
Nur eine weitere Spezies war dort an diesem Tag aktiv, auf dem Boden ruhend:
Not sure which species that is. Seems to be closely related to Burmagomphus divaricatus, but the pattern doesn't really fit.
Die Art entgeht mir. Könnte sich um Verwandte von Burmagomphus divaricatus handeln, aber die Farbgebung stimmt nicht ganz.
