Wednesday Walk: Vegas

Wednesday Walk: Vegas

April 2019 · 5 min read

I knew this was going to be a hard post today for a couple of different reasons...

  1. I did a lot of walking and taking pictures this past week, so there is a ton of content to sift through.
  2. Having just come back from vacation, I don't have a ton of motivation to do much of anything.

In fact, if I follow you and consistently comment on your posts, I have to apologize. It would seriously take me two full days to go back through all of your posts in the past six days and adequately comment on them.

Instead, I started with your last post and I will move forward as usual from there.

This was my third time visiting Las Vegas, NV and most likely it will probably be my last.

One of the things I don't really remember the other times I was here is just how dirty it is. I used to be very impressed with the way that things were kept up throughout the various establishments especially the bathrooms. That just doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

@mrsbozz and I flew in on Friday last week and met up with our friends at the Hilton Grand Vacations resort on the Las Vegas strip which we were calling home for the next five days.

It was a short walk down to the Stratosphere and we passed this wedding chapel.

You can't see it in the picture, but there is a sign in the window that says "Pretend Wedding Photos" $45. It might have been a fun April fools joke to play if @mrsbozz and I weren't already married.

Though the walk to the Stratosphere was fairly short, as soon as we started on our way, I felt like I had been punched in the nose. Then the sneezing started and basically the waterworks from my face. I don't know if it was the dry air or what, but something was conducting an all out assault on my sinuses. It was something I would struggle with the remainder of our time there.

Saturday night we took a ride to the downtown area and walked around Fremont Street.

Fremont street is the older area of Vegas and it is pretty cool. It can get super crowded though, so if you don't do well with crowds, go during the day! We heard from many sources that pretty much everything was better on Fremont from the gambling to the food.

For me, that was a pretty accurate statement and I will cover one of our meals down there in a future post. I did pretty good at the ETG (Electronic Table Games). My favorite is bubble craps. It is basically craps but instead of sitting at a table you sit in a circle around a large "Trouble" style bubble.

If you want to teach someone to play craps, it is a really easy way to do so, there isn't as much pressure or intimidation as standing at a table. Plus the minimums are usually lower. In fact, I taught my friend how to play and before I knew it he was up to $600 after having only started with $20. Needless to say he played bubble craps every chance he got the rest of our time there.

Another night @mrsbozz and I took a stroll around The Venetian where they have a canal system and you can take rides in the gondola boats. We thought about giving it ago, but the cost was around $150 for just the two of us.

The Trump building was one of our choices of places to stay. I told my friend I would not be going if that is where we had to stay. I took a picture of it anyway though. I thought @trumpman might appreciate it.

Finally, on another night we decided to stick around and watch the show from the Bellagio fountains. I didn't get any pictures which is a shame because apparently it was a Game of Thrones themed show, but on our way to the front of the casino we had to walk through this revolving door.

I had to get a picture of it for @tattoodjay since the #wednesdaywalk challenge is sponsored by him.

On our way back we came across this band playing. If we hadn't been so tired, we probably would have stopped and listened more.

It is funny because when you look at the map, everything seems pretty compact and all in one area (besides downtown). When you actually try to walk it though, it is another story. The scale of this place is just huge!

I had noticed it last time I was in Vegas, but @mrsbozz and I noticed even more this time the number of families that were walking around in Vegas. I'm talking 11:00 at night pushing kids around in strollers on the strip. Little kids running around the gaming floor acting all crazy.

Now, I have nothing against kids whatsoever, but Vegas is the last place I would want to bring kids. Plus the fact that you know 80% of the adults walking around with their kids aren't sober makes it a scary situation to me.

That's just another one of the reasons I probably won't ever go back. Along with the fact that it is just so darn expensive and there are other places that @mrsbozz and I would really like to see on this Earth before we leave it.
