Evening steemers,
A few months back some fellow steeming house mates and I visited Melbourne, Victoria from our humble abode in Brisbane, Queensland. Our mission was to catch up with some friends that live there and to see a band called BLOOD DUSTER play their last ever show! But first we took a trip to the famous St. Kilda Pier.
The sunset here is amazing, worth the trip for that alone
It was an absolutely breath taking sun set and with most people distracted by the Penguins (The whole point to the visit) it was rather easy to get a shot of. At roughly the same time as this sun set the Penguins came in to the rocks and make quite a scene as the get comfortable for the night......maybe even a little bit of breeding :-)
be prepared, both of the penguin photos are pretty bad but I would have had to get some flying elbows happening to get a better shot
There is a research team that check up on the colony a couple of times a month and record scientific data. The Penguins here are Eudyptula minor commonly known as "The little Penguin" and are apparently the smallest Penguins that exist. The may be called little but they didn't seem to think so when they grunted and made people move so they could use the man made stair case.
The same two Penguins but a little closer, a little more blurry yes, but closer!
So my steeming friends I strongly recommend the trip to Melbourne's famous St. Kilda Pier for some solid Penguin and sunset watching. Be sure to take a jumper cause it's cold and a little windy out where the Penguins are, a mistake I made but it wasn't too bad. Chuck it on your list :-)
Peaceful travels,
Sam.
