We all know the story of Dracula, the famous vampire, famous protagonist of books and films. A man who according to the stories fed on human blood and could enjoy eternal life. Legend? Truth? Definitely a fascinating and full of mystery story.
The real name of the elusive Count Dracula was Vlad III of Wallachia, who lived in the fifteenth century. Dracula derives from Dracul which means devil and was the nickname that first the father Vlad II used and then also the son. This nickname had been given to them because of their bloody cruelty to their enemies, in fact they used to impale all the men they defeated.
Vlad Tepes (the impaler) is the iconic figure that we all imagine, but this grisly transformation from a member of the order of the dragon into a creature of blood-thirsty night is due to the writer Bram Stoker, it was he who imagined the vampire and use Bran Castle a few miles from Brasov in Transylvania as the palace of the prince of the night.

Fantasy that has turned into a real legend, unfortunately the Bran Castle was never the palace of the much-feared Dracula, Bram Stoker used the mysterious charm of the famous manor to give a place to his character and now, thanks to this, you can visit it.
Unfortunately many travelers are disappointed by the truth but no one forbids you to continue to believe and walk around the castle imagining a vampire behind every door.

Bran Castle dates back to the 13th century, it was built to protect the population from the Mongolian army who managed to invade the lands and destroy the castle.
The reconstruction took place at the hands of the Hungarians more than a century later.
It was probably the landscape that helped Bram Stoker to imagine Bran Castle as a vampire home, in fact the fortress stands in the middle of a gorge between rocky mountains.

Although massively restored, the castle is still picturesque and full of charm, a neo-Gothic style, narrow passages and staircases leading to vast rooms with recovered furnishings, from the windows you can enjoy a beautiful view of the valley.
Getting to the fortress is not a very simple thing, there are buses that go through strange hours but above all, starting from Brasov, the indications are almost nil, this does not prevent you from arm yourself with patience and do the necessary research to avoid making mistakes.
Bran Castle is a must-see for those who love the history of Romania but above all for those who love fantasy stories with the right amount of mystery and terror.
