This beautiful jellyfish was either injured or dead, floating in the shallows of the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea, I happened no to see this bright red mauve creature.

It was a sunny and mild first day of January. The sea looked so gorgeous and inviting. I was on holiday after all staying near a place called Calonge on the Costa Brava. The water was pretty cold but refreshing for the body. I had strapped a go pro to my body to capture some under water shots and I was able to brace the cold.

On my third attempt trying to get the shots I wanted and finally got what I needed I swam into the shallows and saw something in my prefirl, I felt a sharp burn ot sting and started panicking, I was kicking my legs frantically trying to get out the water. I began to realize what happen and shouted o my bf to help.

I NEVER FELT A STING SO BAD!!!!

Omg, honestly I thought maybe I was going to have to seak médical help, I felt like I was going to pass out or something. It was burning like fire, I kept splashing cold water on it, which seem to releave the pain alot.
My bf investigated what had stung me, we got photos which allowed me to identify it as the mauve stinger.

I was lucky to have only just a couple of stings, 3 stripes on my calf and a round patch on my thigh. The pain took a while to go down and the scar lasted well over 2 weeks. I read about people being hospitalised but thankfully I recovered quickly.
