CORONAVIRUS IN ABIA STATE

April 2020 · 4 min read

Hi friends this is a contest by @invisusmundi,you can check his blog for link to participate.

First of all I will start with a very brief introduction about myself.

WHO AM I?

My name is Cheryl am a mother of two,a civil servant and a business woman,I hail from Abia state, Nigeria. Actually I put to bed on 29th December,so I have been on my maternity leave since then.

CORONAVIRUS IN MY AREA

Here in Abia state we haven't had any infected person that it is recorded so far, even before the whole isolation thing started I have always been indoors as I haven't resumed work yet,the only work I do are the ones I do from home.

Here in Abia we have been on social distancing for over a week now, churches, social gatherings including weddings, burials, child dedications have all been shut down, only food vendors are permitted to sell and they must sell infront of their houses.

Over here we are not permitted to travel because the borders are closed, this is a measure to ensure that infected person's don't enter the state, several state borders are closed so there isn't any need to travel because you wouldn't even be allowed.

Am a jumia sales consultant,so what I do is to help people place orders online,am not involved in delivery so I work from home, the Corona virus issue has so affected that aspect of my finances because I haven't gotten any orders in the past two weeks and almost everyone is on self isolation.

This period has been a period of bonding for me,my husband and out as we have been indoors all through this period,we haven't had contact with anyone as we live alone in our compound,so I don't have any infected close person.

WHAT I DO EVERYDAY

For me it hasn't been difficult because am an indoor person,so everyday I just see that I achieve something meaningful in all areas. So apart from my regular home chores, cooking, washing, cleaning and taking care of the kids,I also attend to other businesses.

I bought a paint of melon and I peel a cup each day. This is how it looks like unpeeled

This is how it is when peeled

I store it in those airtight containers and use it as a thickner for my soup.

My little daughter is 2years old,I also create some time to help her practice most of the things she was taught in school so that she doesn't forget them, recently a friend of mine shared a preschool pdf file and I printed some worksheet pages for her to study,so we do like 3-4 exercises a day.

Then finally I have some online classes I attend,I love cooking so much, and explore every opportunity I get to enhance my skills because I want to give my husband the best. This is a free cooking class by Chefrow,I was looking to stumbling into it on Facebook

I was also lucky to stumble into a free beauty class where we learn how to take care of how skin, how to enhance our makeup skins and also how to choose the appropriate method for our skin type,am a woman and looking good is one of my top priorities.

Someone posted something that struck me on Whatsapp and it says "If you don't come out of this quarantine with a new skill,a side hussle started or more knowledge, you didn't lack time but you lacked discipline".

So I want to also challenge each and everyone of us,their are lots of skills to be learnt, try to develop yourself and come out better, don't just eat and sleep and get fat, there is time for everything, use this time to learn so that once this is over you can start practicing what you learnt and earn from it.

If you can't pay for a class, try the free ones, just get strife to get better, you can also read books to build yourself, there are lots of things you can do at home.

I hope I inspired someone through this post, please if you need the link to any of my class, kindly drop a comment and I will reply with the link, thanks again @invisusmundi for an opportunity to participate in this contest.
