Naples and its thousand colors (part 2)

Leaving the Basilica we headed towards the sea and in the distance it is possible to admire Vesuvius in all its beauty. Today the sea was rough and quite windy and some kitesurfing enthusiasts delighted us with some acrobatic performances. Behind the **Palazzo Reale** there is the tourist port of Naples from which large cruise ships depart every day and next to it there is also the military port where some boats of the Italian navy moor.

The walk along the seafront has been really relaxing with the spectacle of the sea on one side and the beautiful historic buildings and not only that overlook Via **Via Sauro** and **Via Partenope**. It is also possible to admire some beautiful installations such as the **Fontana del Gigante**, the incomplete fountain of its giant that was removed in 1800 from the original location, Piazza Plebiscito.

On the sea is the oldest castle in Naples, **Castel dell'Ovo**, formerly the king's residence, is a fortress on the sea which is accessed by a footbridge controlled by two small watchtowers, currently being restored. Due to the limited time we were unable to visit it, but we will certainly be back. The waterfront continues to give us beautiful images: you can see the islands of Capri and Ischia in the distance!

Arrived at the **Monument of the Fallen**, we stopped here for lunch at the Pizzeria Sorbillo, among the historic pizzerias of the city, and we found a dense queue to wait for the opening. Here you can taste, in addition to some excellent appetizers and first courses, the particular Neapolitan pizza for the light dough and the gigantic size, stuffed with high quality products.

After lunch, we embarked on the long commercial journey that starts from Via Caterina, where there are high fashion stores, commercial and entertainment activities. In these streets the greatest flow of pedestrian traffic is concentrated with tourists who move in bulk from one part of the shops to the other or who crowd around to eat typical takeaway products. We are also under Christmas and we breathe a different air, of festivity and joy. The commercial activities have begun the preparations of the shop windows and some Santa Claus are wandering the streets performing in exchange for free offers.

Continuing along the commercial street, we return near Piazza Plebiscito. Here is the **Galleria Umberto I**, a gallery in the shape of a cross, with very high vaults and made up of windows that make the environment very bright, full of commercial shops and therefore highly dense with tourists and not only.

Proceeding on **Via Toledo**, always commercial area, you arrive at the Toledo metro station, the most recent in terms of construction and is defined among the most beautiful metro stops in Europe. The mosaic of which the entire surface is made projects you into a sea of lights to which is added an effect of lights present in the skylight that reaches the surface. It is a show that leaves you speechless.
