Esta montaña está ubicada al este de la ciudad de Cagua, estado Aragua, Venezuela, es un lugar concurrido por deportistas, amantes de la naturaleza, exploradores y ecologistas . Alberga un sin fin de especies vegetales y una trágica historia local, por lo que es común que escuelas organicen excursiones. A lo largo de los años, quienes habitamos en Cagua hemos visto como El Empalao se ha convertido en un lugar seguro y por tanto concurrido. Particularmente me sorprendió, en este recorrido, observar la cantidad de adultos mayores y jóvenes, en un hermoso contraste de agilidad, fuerza, serenidad y precaución, tanto para subir como para bajar.

This mountain is located east of the city of Cagua, Aragua State, Venezuela, and is a place frequented by sportsmen, nature lovers, explorers and ecologists. It is home to an endless number of plant species and a tragic local history, so it is common for schools to organize excursions. Over the years, those of us who live in Cagua have seen how The Empalao has become a safe and busy place. I was particularly surprised, on this tour, to observe the number of older adults and young people, in a beautiful contrast of agility, strength, serenity and caution, both going up and coming down.

El cerro El Empalao debe su nombre a una cruel práctica que se llevó a cabo en este territorio durante el período de colonización de Venezuela, en esta ciudad vivían los nativos de la tribu Meregotos, narra la historia oficial que el encomendero de la corona española, Garci González de Silva, llevaba al pico de esta empinada, a los indígenas que hacían resistencia al proyecto de esclavización, donde se cometía la barbarie de atravesarlos con un palo, provocándoles la muerte.
Estas tragedias no se olvidan pero se superan, han pasado un poco más de 400 años, hemos sido más que resilientes, y hacer de esta montaña un lugar para el esparcimiento es la mejor ofrenda que le podemos ofrecer a nuestros primeros pobladores.

Son unos 700 metros de altitud con una temperatura promedio diaria de 32 grados centígrados.

Mi experiencia
Mi grupo inició el recorrido a las 6:45 am, elegimos la ruta más empinada; árboles, polvo, rocas y una vista hermosa, además la adrenalina y la transpiración van de la mano y a medida que se va conquistando la cima la satisfacción renueva las energías físicas y emocionales. Les recomiendo tomar el camino, previo a ver desayunado, llevar agua y alguna merienda. Llegamos hasta el sector el mirador; es muy bonito tiene bancos para sentarse, está muy limpio y algún filántropo ha dejado inspiradores mensajes. Caminamos un poco e iniciamos la descendida por “el corta fuego lomo é perro”, es una ruta inclinada, pero la más corta. Por este paso llegamos a la plaza “Manadas Guaoo”, es muy acogedora, también tiene para sentarse, una mesa de piedras, árboles y dos vistas espectaculares de un lado la ciudad y del otro las plantaciones de caña de azúcar.
Al descender me encontré con una belleza de árbol ubicado al lado de un canal de agua que se utiliza para regar los cultivos, es frondoso y en las ramas que cuelgan sobre corriente de agua, unos diminutos pájaros, no distinguí la especie, han construido sus nidos desde donde cantan, yo morí de amor, con esta puesta en escena.
My experience
My group started the tour at 6:45 am, we chose the steepest route; trees, dust, rocks and a beautiful view, also the adrenaline and perspiration go hand in hand and as you conquer the summit the satisfaction renews the physical and emotional energies. I recommend you to take the road, before having breakfast, bring water and a snack. We arrived to the viewpoint sector; it is very nice, it has benches to sit on, it is very clean and some philanthropist has left inspiring messages. We walk a little and start the descent by “the firewall lomo é perro”, it is a steep route, but the shortest. Through this pass we arrived at the square “Manadas Guaoo”, it is very cozy, it also has a table to sit, a table of stones, trees and two spectacular views on one side the city and on the other the sugar cane plantations.
When descending I found a beautiful tree located next to a water channel that is used to irrigate crops, it is leafy and in the branches hanging over the water stream, some tiny birds, I did not distinguish the species, have built their nests from where they sing, I died of love, with this staging.

Al pie de esta colina esta la comunidad de Fundacagua, a sus alrededores, iglesias, panaderias, comercios diversos y la carretera nacional que conduce hacia Caracas y el centro del país, pero también hacia las regiones de Oriente y Los Llanos.
