Granada is a city in the Southern Spanish region of Andalusia, and one of the most interesting and unique cities in Spain!
A visit to Granada wouldn't be complete without a visit to Alhambra - it is one of the major tourist attractions in Granada. To avoid disappointment I recommend booking tickets a few weeks in advance tickets do sell out - as I said it is very popular! Alhambra has gone through many changes over the years, and has acted as a palace, castle and fortress!
The view from below gives an idea as to the scale of Alhambra - it is massive! It oversees the city of Granada, and it is easy to imagine how it could have been used as a place of defence many, many years ago!
The detail on the inside of Alhambra is absolutely incredible. You could spend hours just checking out the scriptures and different pieces of art and style. The art is everywhere too - the walls, the floor and the ceiling!
The arab influence is unmistakable, from the written language and script to the unique shapes and colors. It is truly like something I haven't seen anywhere else in Spain, or Europe before!
Its not all art though - Alhambra is very vast and has many outdoor spaces to check out with wonderful gardens and fountains. Seeing these outdoor areas are interesting an give a contrast to the detailed artistic look from the inside of some of the buildings.
There is actually a massive outdoor area and garden here aswell, but something we didn't explore in too much detail - that could have taken another half a day!
Being located at the top of a massive hill gives Alhambra many benefits - along with some amazing views of Granada! The buildings and streets in Granada are quite unique - the majority of the houses and buildings are white, which is different to many Spanish towns and cities. They give a great contrast with the mountains in the background.

Alhambra is a truly wonderful and unique place I could write about for hours, but I think you get the point!
I would recommend putting a whole day aside for visiting Alhambra, as it is massive and has alot of different areas to explore!
