Travel Tip: Pruhonice Park, beautiful natural area on the outskirts of Prague

February 2018 · 2 min read · Central Bohemia

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to take you to one of the most beautiful natural places of Prague, the spectacular (yet relatively unknown) Pruhonice Park.

Once you make it to this park, you will hardly believe this green oasis of peace and quietness is located just a few miles outside the hustle and bustle of the Prague center.

Spreading over a total area of 240ha, the Pruhonice Park is one of the largest landscaped parks in the country and possibly also in Central Europe.

Founded in 1885, the Pruhonice Park offers a variety of different floral species (about 1,600) and eco-systems ranging from Alpine meadows to coniferous woods and even some exotic plants and trees.

Dominated by the magnificent Neo-Renaissance Pruhonice Castle, the park is open to public all year round but for obvious reasons, spring is the best time to visit it as that is when most of the flowers start blooming. Visitors usually particularly admire the renowned collection of rhododendrons, containing more than 100 species and cultivars.

There are several routes in the park, ranging in the length and time, so that everyone can choose according to their preference. If you want, however, you easily spend the whole day at this beautiful place.
