Hiking to God's Bridge Near Chefchauoen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco - DLive Video

May 2018 · 3 min read · Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima

It'd been well over a decade since I'd stepped foot on the continent of Africa. For this trip, I joined my twin brother in the country of Morocco, the star of northern Africa (I don't think anyone calls it that, but there IS a star on their flag).

One of the towns that we went to is Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco (people DO call it that and you can see why). It is a very popular town to visit for foreigners because of all the photogenic spots that all the Instagram husbands are forced to labor at.

Joe and I turned the tables on our Instagram wives. JK, I'm single AF

While we were in Chefchauoen, we discovered that there is an attraction not too far away called God's Bridge that a lot of people seemed to be going to and bringing positive reviews. We decided to check it out. It was myself, Joe, his girlfriend Chelsea, their friend Kelly, and a couple others we met in a hostel. We walked to a taxi center in town and told him we wanted to go to God's Bridge. It's about a 45 minute car ride away, deeper into the Rif Mountains.

When we got there we made the epic journey to the natural bridge phenomena known to English speakers as God's Bridge. Our hike took us up a canyon, down steep trails, and across frigid rushing water. The bridge connects the two canyon walls and is a pretty spectacular sight to see. The stream running down this canyon has very pretty water, albeit very cold water, so we decided to take a dip. And when I say "we", I mean Joe and I. The water was the kind of cold that holds your breathing muscles hostage as soon as you touch it. It's a bit like what I imagine a polar plunge to feel like.

This is not the only hike in the area, though. For those who have the time and energy for more beauty and adventure, you can also climb to the top of God's Bridge and look down into the canyon below. Or you can hike 2 hours one way to see a special waterfall which is what we did. It was a long and exhausting hike. The waterfall was very thin. Almost just a trickle of water running down the cliff face but it was unlike any other waterfall I can recall seeing.

If you ask me, God's Bridge is a must-do while you visit Chefchauoen. It's mostly locals there (at least on the weekend which is when I went) and you get to see one of many beautiful sides of Morocco. The Rif Mountains are very beautiful to hike in.
