“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt

Hello Steemit Fretz!

Last April we celebrated Kaudaugan sa Mactan (Victory of Mactan), which is a commemoration of Lapu-Lapu's victory against Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer. During this time, there are various events that are happening for the whole month of April and one of most awaited is the Rampada! This celebration is held in Lapu-Lapu City.

Lapu-Lapu – He is recognized as the first Hero of the Philippines

Rampada in English means "Rampage." However, that is not really the case on this event. People do flock the streets of Lapu-Lapu, not to run amok but to drink dance and party. This event has been an annual ritual for the city. Unfortunately, this annual event is no longer present for this year’s Festival. For those who missed it, I'm going to share with you my experience during this fun time and what you’ll expect with the street party!

Rampada Highlights

Here are a some things that you could see during the street party, what to bring and what to wear.

Must-Have: T-Shirts

For our first Rampada, we decide to D-I-Y, let one of our frets do the prints and we don’t have to go the printing shop to have it customized.

EXPECTATION versus REALITY: EPIC FAIL. This is what our first shirt looks like in 2014.

In 2015, we’ve learned our lesson and then we had to go to the printing shop. No hassle, you just need to choose a shirt and viola!

This looks way better when it was fresh from the print shop. This photo was taken from the aftermath that night. lol.

Tequila Shots

Please ignore those cute little toes on the background^^

NO BEER NIGHT! The best and most ideal alcoholic drink for a street party is tequilla and lemonsito. 😊 Buy like three or four bottles, distribute to each one of you so it won’t be too heavy and boom! You’re good to go. This way you can freely roam the streets without worries, you can even run around!

Street Dancing

One of the things you shouldn’t miss is the street parade. This parade is a mix of giants and dancers. It’s kind of gives you a Brazilian type of vibe but it’s not as grand as the one held in Brazil but it’s still a colorful celebration. The street dancers are so fun to watch because of their colorful and sparkling costumes and huge hair dresses.

This giant is inspired from the movie Avatar

JAMMED PHONE SIGNAL

At this time, phone signal is close to none. Networks are so busy at this time. When it comes to meet-ups an 8 P.M. call time, means “let’s meet after an hour or two.” ^^ Usually, we stay at a fixed place until everyone is present.

While Waiting......

Walk, Dance, Walk, Drink, Walk and Party!

Majority of the time you will be walking around the streets since you can find different bands or party stands on each block so you would not miss that out. I also learnt over time that you need to have comfy shoes, nothing new or grand because at the end of the night, you will get dirty and or you could get super wet.

If you get lucky, you get to meet some topless guys along the way.

As the alcohol sinks in, this is where the fun begins. My gay friends just know how to entertain and just can’t get enough of their playfulness!

Hope you had fun! Thanks for dropping by my fretz!
