On June 1st I was in Washington DC wandering around what they call "The National Mall." It is America's most visited national park and on that day it was pretty crowded despite the heat. One of the stops that I visited that day was the famous Lincoln Memorial.

As I climbed the steps to the monument this old doofus with his sign was there. I guess he is there all the time thinking he is making a difference.

One thing I noticed as I got next to the memorial was its massive size. The statue is 19 feet tall from his foot to his head while he is sitting. If he were to be standing, the statue would be 28 feet tall due to the scale used to construct the statue.

I had a wait quite a while to be able to get some pictures of Lincoln without people standing all over the place in front of it. Behind him on the wall these words are inscribed into the wall:

IN THIS TEMPLE
AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE
FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION
THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN
IS ENSHRINED FOREVER

One of the cool things about how the Lincoln Memorial is set up is that Lincoln is positioned to be looking over the whole area from where he is seated.

So many people just camp out on the steps of the memorial and look out over the rest of The Mall because this is the awesome view that you see from the top of the steps.

The Washington Monument was a pretty cool site to see up close, but that will have to be in a different post. It was awesome to see the monument from across the water while standing at the top of the Lincoln Memorial. This trip was definitely one that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Yesterday I decided that I was going to go to Steemfest while I was talking to @vladivostok. I bought my plane tickets and my hotel already. You can read more about it in my post Well it looks like I am going to be at Steemfest this year.

So right now I am using the power of the Steemit platform to raise Steem to purchase my ticket to get into Steemfest. The price of the ticket is going to go up in 25 days, so I will be raising funds over the next 3 weeks through post rewards and donations to purchase my minnow ticket. So if you want to support my road to Steemfest, upvotes on this post would be greatly appreciated.

Once I get to Poland I plan on taking a lot of pictures of not only Steemfest, but I will be visiting some of the different sites in the area. I am planning on filming a documentary about the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp. I am working on studying up on the camp and how that documentary is going to go now.

Thank you
