STREET ART #51 – Seth – the French Clobe painter

Street artist Seth or Julien Malland also called Clobe painter. He has done so many colorful pieces around the world. Just recently I saw two of the newest murals he has done in Aalborg, Denmark. While on holiday in Mauritius two years ago, I saw two other murals done by him.

Seth paints curious children. The reaction he intends to provoke with his artwork is to keep our child’s soul.

His work can be seen all over the world: India, China, Mexico, Chile, Indonesia, Vietnam, Senegal, Brazil, Mauritius and now in Denmark too. Part of his work as a globe-painter is documented in his book «Extra Muros»

Mauritius

In Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius he did two murals for the Porlwi by Light festival in 2016 – a festival of contemporary culture held in the capital. The intention of this annual festival, is to advocate culture, stimulate creativity and culture. To make the festival possible, artists of all kinds are gathered. Also street artists from around the world. Most of it happens in the streets. Exhibitions, shows, street artists in action, educational films are shown in historic buildings among others, opened up for the event. I was there in 2017 for the 3rd edition. The theme was Porlwi by Nature. (Porlwi Festival 2017: https://steemit.com/travel/@digi-me/porlwi-by-nature-a-cultural-festival-and-a-feast-for-the-senses)

«Sous les pavès»

The title is «Sous les pavès» (Under the Pavement) and is found in the center of town right beside the cathedral. There used to be a school behind the walls. Today it has been turned into a parking lot.  This mural is one of favorites in Port Louis.

«Ma Bastille»

This is the other one in the center of town. It is within a guarded parking lot. Just ask the guard for permission to come inside to take the photo. It was no problem at all.

Denmark

In Aalborg, Seth did two new pieces this year for the «Out in the Open» mural project. When I was in Aalborg in september I went to see them together with my sister. She told me he did the large mural of the boy first. Then he saw the building with the windows and asked to do another painting on that building too. The buildings are so close to each other that you can see both at the same time.

«Jack in the Box»

«The Phoenix»

Gallery Kirk in Aalborg has engaged many street artists in connection with their street art project - "Out in the Open". This project, together with the «We Aart Festival» has resultet in Aalborg becomming a great open air gallery. It is really enjoyable to walk the streets and discover the new murals each time I am in Aalborg.

Seth became a globe painter due to the desire to travel and explore the world. When he started to travel, he realized that painting was the best way to meet, interact and get to know a country. In the 80s he discovered graffiti, but one of the life-changing points was the meeting with Bischoff Gautier – a graffiti photographer who showed him many new places. By 1996 he attended the school of Decorative Arts in Paris, where he started to become specialist of backgrounds and characters.
