All are found close to the city center, where there is a walk-and-bike path beneath the main road, leading in several directions and to «Samsen Kulturhus» - which is a center for cultural activity. The whole path is covered with graffiti leading right up to the front of «Samsen». The backside of the building is decorated with graffiti by local artists. I know that at least one of the artists also has his studio here.
The whole walk-and-bike path is completely covered with graffiti. When I was here, I noticed some has been repainted. These are the new ones.
«Samsen Kulturhus» is a cultural activity center, owned and operated by Kristiansand municipality,
It is the largest of its kind in Norway. Also considered as the most content- rich cultural center for the young generation age 15-25. It's not only inside there are activities. All the way around the building there is graffiti.
The cultural activities going on are dance, music, art, film, photography, climbing, concerts, festivals and events. Self-governing groups play an important role in addition to the open cultural offer. If anyone wants to arrange something themselves, then that is also possible.
Terje Andersen is the artist behind this beautiful mural of a child. As you can see, there is another painting of a child, but not visible because of the wooden boards covering it. For quite some time now, there has been some rebuilding going on.
This building has not always housed a culture center. It used to be a slaughterhouse where the last slaughter was in 1986. But Kristiansand municipality bought the building in 1992 and has spent a few years rebuilding and making some changes to suit the new purpose.
