EuroVelo 7 - Gedser to Haarboelle 70 km

June 2022 · 3 min read · Denmark

Good morning from Denmark! I'm quite excited to start my first day of cycling in Denmark, it's not the brightest one considering the clouds above but at least the tent is dry so we'll be ready for departure shortly.

But first let's say good morning to our neighbours who are busy packing to catch the next ferry.

While also packing my tent I had the pleasure to chat for a minute with this young couple from Germany who were touring with their two toddlers around the Baltic region for a month or so which was indeed very inspirational for me as a father. This is what I call quality time with your kids, no need for screens on a trip like this with ever-changing scenery.

The camping in Gedser was quite small and quiet with no option for breakfast and I was quite low on caffeine that day so I decided to ride to Nykobing Falster which is a small city on our route just 17 km away. I got lucky again finding a nice coffee shop downtown called Ritz Cafe where I ordered the only thing I understood on the danish menu: brunch.

Yes, I took my time and finished everything, just in case I'll not make it in time for dinner tonight.

Left Nykobing on a full stomach and now everything looked a bit brighter, even the sky.

My day gets brighter and brighter as the clouds clear away revealing the beautiful danish landscape bathed in the afternoon light.

I like to take a lot of breaks as you may have noticed and there are plenty of rest opportunities along the route so far considering how many benches I've seen today which is another big plus for cycling in Denmark.

Now let's chill down on this lovely sandy beach and watch a glorious sunset together.

Hey what a beautiful day this was, the weather completely changed for the best and cruising over the danish countryside was such a joy. I have a feeling the sunrise will be spectacular tomorrow.
