Rescued kitten, safe and sound - Alicante, Valencian Community😻🇪🇦

January 2023 · 3 min read · Alicante

I had to dodge this kitten while driving the car through the Los Beyos gorge (Asturias, northern Spain) when coming back from my trip to Cangas de Onís town 1, 2, 3, so as not to run over her; it was a very rainy day and the road was full of fallen rocks and leaves so I couldn't distinguish at first glance if that black shape was another piece of rock or not; fortunately, and despite the rain, the cold and the hunger she moved a little bit when I had already passed her with the car about 30 meters.

I reversed the car and, with the few strength she had left, she fought to not be grabbed; finally I used a fleece lined to cover her and be able to grab her and put her inside my car.

After the first night in a very warm bed that I prepared for her (in a thermal blanket), some food (Serrano ham) and a week at the vet, the pretty lady fully recovered.

But, when I picked her up from the vet and leading to took her home, she got scared by a noise in the street and jumped out of my arms on her way to my car (I forgot to buy a carrier), hiding in the engine bay of a car parked near mine.

After trying to get her out of there for over four hours I had to convince the owner of the car (who had things to do and couldn't or wanted to be there) to take the car to a nearby mechanic to disassemble the body parts of her new Audi A3 and being able to rescue the cat, but at the same time, risking that the engine could tear the kitten to shreds, for which I tried to take precautions, luring the kitten towards the wheel arch with a call from a mommy cat on my smartphone.

When I found out that the cat was safe in the wheel arch, we went to the mechanic and they removed three car body veneers in less than half an hour.

Fortunately, everything went well and, after that, I bought a carrier and she is now happy in her new home.

Her name "Atres" comes from the story of the Audi A3, which I certainly will not forget.
