Es war unser letzter Tag am Lake Bunyonyi. Wir wollten an der Schule noch ein Video für Bekannte von uns drehen. Crystal war sofort begeistert und schlug vor, noch mehr Videos zu machen. Als wir an der Schule ankamen, waren die Kinder gerade mit ihrem Mittagessen beschäftigt. Wir wollten deshalb etwas spazieren gehen und waren noch nicht weit entfernt,als Crystal angesprochen wurde. Wir gingen daraufhin in ein kleines Haus. Dort lag der Großvater von Clinton, einem Schüler, im Bett und rührte sich nicht. Die Großmutter saß in einem Sessel daneben. Clintons Eltern sind früh gestorben und die beiden kümmerten sich um den Jungen. Sowohl Crystal als auch wir gaben Geld für den kranken Großvater.Im Laufe des Gesprächs kam heraus,dass er zwei Tage zuvor einen Schlaganfall erlitten hatte und nun halbseitig gelähmt war.Im Dorf konnte ihm nicht geholfen werden. Das nächste große Krankenhaus war 2,5 Stunden Autofahrt entfernt. Wir sagten ihnen,dass er sofort ins Krankenhaus muß. Als sie die Dringlichkeit verstanden hatten,war ihr Plan, den alten Mann mit dem Bus (öffentliche Verkehrsmittel) dorthin zu bringen. Michael und ich schauten ungläubig „mit dem Bus??“ Wir haben dann ein Taxi organisiert und bezahlt. 40$ hat das gekostet (das ist für manche Menschen dort ein Monatsgehalt!). Der Großvater wurde dann von drei Männern zum Taxi getragen. Es ist mir unbegreiflich,wie das Ganze mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln hätte ablaufen sollen. Die Großmutter ist natürlich auch mitgefahren. Vorher musste noch gepackt werden, u.a.wurde Bettwäsche für das Krankenhaus mitgenommen.Clintons Großvater hat noch 2,5 Monate gelebt...
Noch heute sehe ich die Frau am Bett ihres Mannes sitzen, machtlos irgendetwas zu tun,weil sie kein Geld hat.Ich musste immer an meine Eltern denken-eine unerträgliche Situation...
Sehr häufig wird /wurde uns gesagt, wir hätten doch auch in Deutschland genug Armut, warum wir nicht hier etwas tun. Ja, es gibt auch hier Armut (vor allem viel geistige Armut)....Einmal abgesehen davon,dass ich diese Diskussionen hasse, ist die Armut dort eine völlig andere als hier. Viele Menschen dort haben kein Wasser und keinen Strom in ihren Häusern und sie werden oft auch nicht satt.Man stirbt dort an den einfachsten Erkrankungen, da die medizinische Versorgung sehr schlecht ist. Und auch zur Schule gehen zu dürfen ist keine Selbstverständlichkeit,denn die Familien müssen Schulgeld bezahlen.
So, aber genug traurige Geschichten für heute!
Wir gingen danach zur Schule und drehten ein paar Videos.

It was our last day on Lake Bunyonyi. We wanted to make a video for acquaintances of the school at the school. Crystal was immediately excited and suggested to make more videos. When we arrived at the school, the children were busy with their lunch. So we wanted to go for a walk and were not far away when Crystal was approached. We then went to a small house. There was the grandfather of Clinton, a student, in bed and did not move. Grandmother was sitting in a chair next to it. Clinton's parents died early and the two took care of the boy. Both Crystal and we gave money to the sick grandfather. During the conversation it turned out that he had suffered a stroke two days earlier and was now paralyzed on one side. He could not be helped in the village. The next big hospital was 2.5 hours drive away. We told them to go to the hospital right away. When they understood the urgency, their plan was to get the old man there by bus (public transport). Michael and I looked in disbelief "by bus ??" We then organized a taxi and paid. That cost $ 40 (that's a monthly salary for some people!). The grandfather was then carried to the taxi by three men. It is incomprehensible to me how the whole thing should have been done by public transport. Of course, the grandmother also came with us. Before it had to be packed, among other things, bed linen for the hospital was taken. Clinton's grandfather lived another 2.5 months ...
Even today I see the woman sitting at the bed of her husband, powerless to do anything because she has no money. I always had to think of my parents-an unbearable situation ...
Very often we are / was told that we have enough poverty in Germany, why we do not do anything here. Yes, there is also poverty here (especially a lot of mental poverty) .... Apart from the fact that I hate these discussions, poverty there is completely different than here. Many people there have no water and no electricity in their homes and they are often not full. One dies there of the simplest diseases, since the medical care is very bad. And being allowed to go to school is not a matter of course, because families have to pay tuition.
So, but enough sad stories for today!
