Bratislava - Part 6 - Random Photos From Bratislava - Part IV.

Bratislava is not a big city, actually it's one of the smallest capital city in Europe. It has only 430,000 inhabitants.

This means you can find almost everything within a walking distance.

In the old city center there is the Faculty of Theology. It's an interesting building, looks new and simple but I don't think it's new. Given the location, must be old. Plus let's not forget that theology is a very old faculty, maybe the oldest.

The Primate's Palace it is the seat of Mayor. The building is a neoclassical palace, built between 1778 and 1781 for Archbishop József Batthyány, creation of creation of architect Melchior Hefele. The palace is open to tourists but unfortunately there was no time to go in, maybe next time.

It has a lovely interior courtyard with a nice fountain, which back in the day was a decoration you had to have.

The statue is of St. George who's fighting with a three-headed dragon.

The water is coming out of the mouth of the dragon.

There is one famous room in the palace, that is the Hall of Mirrors. The Peace Treaty of Pressburg between Austria and France was signed here in 1805. This is the only room where you are allowed to take photos. The others are probably protected.

There's this funny velocipede on the square to remind us of old times. The velocipede dates back to 1817. These are made of some kind of iron and you can't pedal but tourists lobe them and it's quite an attraction, many are taking photos.

A group of statues, angels and maybe a saint. Unfortunately my search wasn't successful, couldn't find any description that explains what we are seeing here.

Another wonderful fountain. These were all made hundreds of years ago as the architectural style is showing us.

I Nonni, Cremeria. This is another Italian named cream shop. I Nonni means The Grandparents. Good thing I know Italian, right?

You can have all kind of yummy things like croissant, coffee, juice etc. Looks like Italian shops are popular in Bratislava. I can understand why. I don't drink coffee anymore, it's been a year now but if you ask me, Italian coffee is the best, not to mention ice cream, voglio dire gelato :D

And here's the proof, the place was full of customers, you could hardly find a place to sit down.

A flower shop called Orchidea. I see all kind of flowers and plant here, except orchid. Maybe they had some inside.

This vine caught my attention, I've never seen one in a pot. At first I thought it's artificial, made of plastic, which would have been a big slap in everyone's face but it wasn't fake, it was real.

These grapes are like the ones without seeds, like raisin. Would have loved to take it home but obviously it was out of question.

Laurel tree, which I haven't seen till that point. It's not common here as the climate is far from favorable to grow them. I'd love one of these as well as I'm using it very often.

To my surprise there were a lot of water spraying gates like this all over the city. I believe it' a good idea especially when it's very hot and believe me, there were days when the temperature was unbearable. We were lucky to have mixed weather, just perfect for roaming around the city all day. It wasn't hot, nor cold, it was just perfect.

Another old street paved with cobblestones.

Galeria Nedbalka, or Nedbalka Gallery is the Slovak Modern Art Gallery. Haven't had the pleasure to visit the gallery but looking at their website I can say it's a wonderful place. They are hosting permanent expositions and current exhibitions as well. It's definitely a place I would visit next time.

I can't finish my post without mentioning this wonderful architecture. These buildings are old and protected and were build in an era where plain and simple was not accepted. I'm glad these buildings have survived and re still standing.

This is the Kompot shop. We were joking about it as kompot in Hungarian means compote, fruits preserved or cooked in syrup. Here kompot means The Timeless T-Shirts.
