Food Blog: Dinner at One & Only Royal Mirage Palace, Dubai

June 2018 · 5 min read

As you notice, everything in Dubai is bigger, better, and more luxurious. Thus, even the shopping malls and restaurants are the same. Considering Dubai is a cosmopolitan city, it's not a surprise to find an immense variety of food choices here. Since my boyfriend and I love beach-side barbecue, thus, we have chosen a hotel restaurant to dine in downtown Dubai.

The reason we have chosen this is location is due to the positive review and also the ambiance. Nothing is better to have dinner right beside the beach where you can hear the rolling sea waves crashing the shore. I can say we had an amazing time here. As the food quality is amazing, service is outstanding, and the overall atmosphere is just stunning.

This is one of the fancy 5-star hotels with a private beach access for the guest. Upon arriving, the first impression we had was how enormous is the place is. The maze-like paths with the myriad of floras and fauna had I stunned silence. Since the compound is massive, we took some time to locate the restaurant, searching from one corner to another. However, we enjoy as we get to explore the palace while searching for the restaurant.

After a zillion years later, we made it there on time. We were lucky that we have a reservation to dine in. Quickly after we sat down, someone attended us by serving us some slices of bread and in-house made butter. To start off, we had half a dozen of oysters as an appetizer and also a lobster bisque.

I have to clarify that I'm an oyster fanatic. I couldn't resist any temptations from the oysters. Once I see it on the menu, I have to get them. Honestly, I never had any oysters that don't taste good. The burst of oceany flavor from the oysters are to die for. However, I wish the oysters to be bigger and more plum. Pairing the oysters with the house-made red-wine vinaigrette and minced shallots are heavenly good. Just as I thought nothing can beat my love of oysters, the next appetizer totally blew me away.

By just looking at the photo, it might not be the most appetizing. But, never judge a book by its cover. It is not what you thought to be bland and boring. The appearance doesn't represent everything in a dish. The content and the flavor is the key component to make a dish to stand out. At first, I sort of regret getting it, knowing it's such a small portion. But after I tasted it, it's couldn't stop myself from getting the second, third, and fourth spoon. It tasted so heavenly good! The smooth and creaminess of the broth are packed with lobster essence, every spoon is like a hundred lobster being devoured. It was extremely satisfying. This could be the best lobster bisque I ever had in my life.

Moving on to the main course, my boyfriend and I ordered a grilled medium rare rib eye and also a grilled sea bass with a side of salad.

What I really like about this restaurant is that they have their ingredients to be displayed close to the kitchen. You can pick and choose your desired piece of meat. Also, since the chiller is close to the kitchen, you can totally see the action-packed situation in the kitchen.

I love the way the kitchen is surrounded by transparent glass. For people like me who's interested in cooking, this is totally a heaven to see how your dish is being made, handle with care, and passion.

In order to judge whether a fish is perfect when it's crispy on the skin and the flesh retains its juiciness and tenderness. In this case, this piece of fish is cooked to perfection. It's so well seasoned and paired with a side of homemade salsa. The unique part of the salsa is that it has a touch of masala flavor with cumin and cinnamon taste to it. Even though it's not the typical salsa you can find in any restaurants, it definitely projects the Arabian grilled theme perfectly.

Just like any other grill restaurants, you couldn't really mess up a piece of good steak. Unless it's overcooked or undercooked to your taste. Well, the thing I am more impressed with was the mashed potatoes. I admire the cook's paying so much attention to detail. The potatoes were mashed ahead with parsley, seasoned with salt and pepper, and possibly sour cream to make it smooth and creamy. Right before it's served, the potatoes were stuffed into the baked potatoes skin with a touch of chili flakes. The tender piece of meat melts in your mouth and followed by the mash, is an ultimate satisfaction. It's definitely not a cheap meal, but, it's so well worth it.
